Social Spaces
This is a day to celebrate and reflect on what the UDHR means to all of us in our everyday lives. This includes the freedoms we have and the rights we enjoy, such as education, healthcare, and the right to live. It also means acknowledging that unfortunately, not all people have these rights and thus educating others and promoting these rights for all.
What are human rights?
According to the Australian Human Rights Commission, human rights recognise the inherent value of each person, regardless of background, where we live, what we look like, what we think or what we believe. They are embedded in the principles that all people be treated fairly, with dignity, equality and mutual respect across all cultures, religions, and philosophies.
The global pandemic has highlighted the fact that not all people in Australia or the world are treated equally. Therefore the 2021 theme is EQUALITY – reducing inequalities, advancing human rights. All human, All equal.
What does equality mean to you?
For me equality means many things, but broadly it's about everyone being equal and protected under the law, and within workplaces, educational insitutions etc.
