Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Hi @Former-Member

There is a lot of stigma around chronic pain - to start with no one can see it - so in that sense it has a lot in common with MI and Bereaved Parenthood. Then there is the stigma of taking schedule 8 medication - it can be addictive - but not everyone has an addictive personality.

I have heard so many people say that taking pain medication increases the pain - I counter that with "The Pain was there first - the medication can't cause pain" but if people don't really know the way chronic pain can destroy someone's life - wow - that can be so hard to tackle without a lot of background info

Then people often don't want to hear that

I have heard people say that Schedule 8 medication should be only for people who have had surgery. They only need it for a short time. I find that laughable - truly - if people with chronic pain are denied that kind of medication why should people who are going to have it for a short time get it?

I find that stigma hard - and sometimes it's in the medical profession as well - but I have a good team and I feel pretty lucky about it.

My recommendation for clucking around outside - stop before it hurts and take a breather for a short time and start again

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Afternoon @Former-Member. Read the last 2 pages. You have been busy! I still haven't unpacked from hospital (been 2 weeks). I find motivation or lack of to be my main problem. Yours is like my mums - pain.
You & @Owlunar are right. Lots of people don't understand or have empathy. But I see my mum struggling with it everyday. So, from that side, I can understand.
I hope you have a nice day today.

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Hi @Former-Member & everyone.

Being someone who has had almost daily chronic back pain for over 20 years, sometimes excruciating - I really do understand how debilitating it can be.

Also frequent stomach pain & bowel issues since my bowel surgeries.

Your painting projects sound motivational - going really well it sounds.

My computer just went totally bung - exactly when I tried to turn it on to come onto the forums a few hours ago. It's really stressful because it's happening before.

I've just taken the computer in for repairs - I need it to write (lodge) my work shift casenotes.

I won't find out what the problem is until Monday.

I'm typing this off my phone, doesn't work easily or as well.

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Hi @Owlunar I guess the stigma for pain, and 'invisible' conditions, is because some, too many, have faked or exaggerated their suffering for personal gain. Same for S8 drugs, and sometimes even MI
Im concerned that my physio thinks I need to build resilience. Hurts just thinking it lol.
You asked "if chronic pain ppl are denied S8 medication - why should people be given it for short term pain, eg after surgery?" A - S8's are not recommended for long term use because of that 'addictive' quality and tolerance leafing to higher and higher dose to work, which depressed systems... breathing the biggest risk. Elderly are particularly vulnerable to this risk. It's a specialty - pain management.

Sorry I had to edit & repost re so many typos. I fell asleep typing it, after work today sorry, exhausted. Was in a lot of pain and didn't sleep well last night so laying down with that heatpack - slept 3hrs this arvo. You know how it is 🙂

Chin up my owl friend

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Woke up to rain this morning. It's nice to hear the sound of it falling but it has put paid to my plans for walking. Maybe it will clear up and I'll be able to head out a bit later. Raining quite hard now.

I had loaded new music onto my phone and had planned to visit a new exhibit at an art gallery as well. I guess I'll have to find an alternative activity.

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Hi @soul, @Adge, @utopia, @Owlunar, thank you for your posts, really appreciate you. I'm not myself, having trouble typing, concentrating (not sure why) so will keep it brief (for a change haha).

Woke before 0839 (forced myself out of bed). Still have pain after overdoung it work yesterday but been worse. Made some porridge and enjoying one of those sachet cappuccino, yum!

When i cant make it to church i do a Bible Study (Zac this month), listen to vision radio. spiritual cd's / dvds this day. Is58 has thrown a lot of light (truth) about the Sabbath.

Woke to a very thick fog herr today, amazing. Good rain o/n too - everything's really wet out. Think my drawers stayed dry, looks ok.

Hope to reply to you all individually soon, but sleepy again already sorry (nodding off again, grr). Appreciate you, my company 😀💜💕🌷🌿

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

@Former-Member. I just woke at 10.30. Freezing here, so have jumped back into bed. Might sleep a lot today too.

Hope you got out of bed eventually @utopia@Former-Member. It was raining when I woke up. No walking the pooch. But I did venture out a bit later. Went to see an exhibition at the art gallery.

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

@souk. Spent all day in bed. Got up at 7pm and drove to the big town for an AA Meeting. Just got home to a cold house. But glad I went.
