Hi @Former-Member
There is a lot of stigma around chronic pain - to start with no one can see it - so in that sense it has a lot in common with MI and Bereaved Parenthood. Then there is the stigma of taking schedule 8 medication - it can be addictive - but not everyone has an addictive personality.
I have heard so many people say that taking pain medication increases the pain - I counter that with "The Pain was there first - the medication can't cause pain" but if people don't really know the way chronic pain can destroy someone's life - wow - that can be so hard to tackle without a lot of background info
Then people often don't want to hear that
I have heard people say that Schedule 8 medication should be only for people who have had surgery. They only need it for a short time. I find that laughable - truly - if people with chronic pain are denied that kind of medication why should people who are going to have it for a short time get it?
I find that stigma hard - and sometimes it's in the medical profession as well - but I have a good team and I feel pretty lucky about it.
My recommendation for clucking around outside - stop before it hurts and take a breather for a short time and start again

Hi @Owlunar I guess the stigma for pain, and 'invisible' conditions, is because some, too many, have faked or exaggerated their suffering for personal gain. Same for S8 drugs, and sometimes even MI
Im concerned that my physio thinks I need to build resilience. Hurts just thinking it lol.
You asked "if chronic pain ppl are denied S8 medication - why should people be given it for short term pain, eg after surgery?" A - S8's are not recommended for long term use because of that 'addictive' quality and tolerance leafing to higher and higher dose to work, which depressed systems... breathing the biggest risk. Elderly are particularly vulnerable to this risk. It's a specialty - pain management.
Sorry I had to edit & repost re so many typos. I fell asleep typing it, after work today sorry, exhausted. Was in a lot of pain and didn't sleep well last night so laying down with that heatpack - slept 3hrs this arvo. You know how it is 🙂
Chin up my owl friend

Woke up to rain this morning. It's nice to hear the sound of it falling but it has put paid to my plans for walking. Maybe it will clear up and I'll be able to head out a bit later. Raining quite hard now.
I had loaded new music onto my phone and had planned to visit a new exhibit at an art gallery as well. I guess I'll have to find an alternative activity.
