Re: Brain Dumping
@Former-Member Sometimes I don't always know why I want to change counsellor / psychologist however I think honouring it is important - sometimes I think subconsciously I know and that I may never consciously know the reason ... I really hope you find a safe and effective therapist relationship that so truly just for you

Re: Brain Dumping
If you have a lot happening in your mind, you might find "brain dumping" to be helpful - if you look at the first 3 posts in this discussion it explains it.

Re: Brain Dumping
Hi @Former-Member
Thank you so much for steering me in the direction of your 'brain dump' thread. I find it incredibly interesting. It reminds me of 'Brainstorming or Mind Map' of projects in a corporate environment.
I just love the simplicity of this breakdown:
I like this explanation:
A brain dump is simply the act of dumping all the contents of your mind onto paper as one might dump the contents of a purse onto a table. You are spilling out stressors, your nagging thoughts, your pesky annoyances, jobs you need to do, goals you have. Simply open up a valve in your mind and let all those thoughts flow out of your hand and onto some paper. Write until you feel like the pressure inside of you is lessened and you can take a deep breath. Then you will have achieved a brain dump.

I think I will start with weekly brain dumps and
progress from there.
Thamk you for the references also.
I'll research them too.
With gratitude,
WIP

Re: Brain Dumping
@WIP I found it interesting too and found it helpful, thought I would do another when I felt the need rather than schedule another and/or a regular time to do another but some people find it helpful to do one daily (esp if their dump it is more task oriented rather than emotional).
I see it is another tool in the self-care kit that can be very useful and, as with a regular tool kit, individual circumstances dictate as to how often one would use a specific gadget.
The references were the pages I quoted/adapted information from. Whilst I did a basic dump, others take it to quite a level as you will see if you do look it up.
@Shaz51 are you finding it does help reduce anxiety a little?

Re: Brain Dumping
@Shaz51 you could set a reminder on your phone if you want to do this on a regular basis.
I do it if I am feeling emotional writing down all thoughts in no particular order.
I find I cope much better when I do this.

Re: Brain Dumping
I’ve just put everything in an email to my psych @Shaz51
I might send it later but at least it’s out of my stupid brain.
