Re: The Beer Garden

You heard the lady, barkeep...

I'll have something strong too, barkeep. A gorilla thanks. Make it an old silverback...

[Gggrrrrroaaaaaawwwrrrrrrrrr]

Aaaaah! Actually barkeep, I take that back. Better make it a monkey. They're not quite as strong...

[with thanks to The Goon Show episode Napoleon's Piano for inspiring that]

@Silenus

I love your Schwiitzerdütsch! Well done 🙂

When I go back and see the Alpes and hear the Schwiitzerdütsch I know I am in my Heimat. I never found that the translation home for Heimat suits. Heimat is where I grew up, home is Australia.

Are you planning to go back sometime? I remember you saying you were uprooted when you were a child, culturally the Swiss and Danish have not really anything in common with the Australians. Did your family stay in touch with groups of Swiss or Danish?

Prost and huggles

Re: The Beer Garden

Our little farm and house in Denmark was fondly named by us as Heimatlie... little home...

My dad says (once more semi-phonetically) - dancke fill-mahl to say thank you...

Then there's an unusual dialect... dang-khre-gish - with tha "hggrrrrhhhh" sound again... hahaha...

Huge hugs @Former-Member 🙂

Re: The Beer Garden

I haven't been in the beer garden for a few days and it's suddenly taken on a european vibe.  I like it!  It's so cold in Victoria at the moment that a mulled wine would hit the spot nicely.  Barkeep?

@Silenus in a belated response to your question, you are very welcome to post about your childhood town.  The anonymity requirement simply means not posting information that is identifying.  Places from our childhood are very unlikely to do that Smiley Happy

Re: The Beer Garden

Pimms and lemonade ta', sweetie darling...

Re: The Beer Garden

I will have some mulled wine please bartender (if anyone is manning the bar tonight?)

Re: The Beer Garden

I'll have a bloody mary thanks with a good dash of worcester, not too much tabasco and a celery stick in it.  My cold remedy for the night!  Cheers @NikNik  🙂

Re: The Beer Garden

@NikNik, we have a robot bartender tonight. He's a good bloke with an encyclopedic knowledge of drinks and a special chip that lets him join in the merriment with us. Doesn't say much though. Mr robot bartender, I'll have some of your finest port!
