Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi all, thanks for the welcome 😊

Hoping to gain advice/hints that can help me to assist my 36yr son-bipolar 1/schizoaffective who has had 4th visit to hospital in past 6yrs. Beautiful soul who doesn’t think he needs meds once treatment order ceases. 🥹

Trying to ensure I look after myself as well so thought chatting with others who have lived experiences would be beneficial.
thanks for being here ❤️

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@MySon63

Hi and welcome.

I have Bipolar 1 and it took me a long time of experimenting with being off and on medication to realise that I have to stay on it for my health. I would take it and feel better then think I didn’t need it anymore. I hate taking medication so it was a real battle. I now know that I have to take it and stay on it but this is something that your son has to come to realise on his own. You can encourage him but try not to nag as he won’t react well to that. It sounds more complicated due to the extra diagnosis of schizoaffective (sorry I am having trouble spelling)! This is a complicated journey to recovery. It has ups and downs and is not a linear journey.

@Jynx @Ru-bee @tyme do you have anything you could add here? I can hear how worried this Mother is…

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Thanks for the tag @Oaktree 😊

Hello @MySon63

As a wife and mother

I agree with @Oaktree to encourage but don't nag

My husband has been in hospital 3 times in the last few years,  he has stopped and started his meds lots of times

After a few day I will say " have you stopped taking your meds "

And he says " can you tell " , amm yes

Over the years I have relized we need to look after our selves to look after others

Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope ) is a good thread to clink on to

Here for you xx

Hey @1078 ,

How are you going? Are you feeling better since the med increase?
