Well I did like not having to use a timetable in peak hour or worry about missing a train as they ran every 2 minutes in peak hour @Sophia1 I eventually worked out could walk 1/4 of city if time no object. Was a lot more direct than trains
i remember seeing scene like in pic but was all up in the air

Hey @Sophia1
Sidetracks are always good; no apologies necessary 🙂
It's a struggle to choose more poems to share! I think the one that began this thread is one of my favourites so far...it's hard to go back and attempt to objectively select others...
Anyway, for the purposes of this discussion, I've gone back to one I wrote a couple of years ago in memory of a mate taken too soon by cancer...which at least holds a lot of meaning for me...it may not be my 'best' work, but it certainly came from the heart...
Here & Now
That fleeting moment of eternity
Energy transformed, never lost
Recycled spontaneity
Erupts into expectant skies
-
An indelible impact on time and space
A secret tattooed on a tongue
A life lived in technicolour
Ever avoiding monochrome
To comprehend the impossible
One might resort to fantasy
All the while collapsing
Under the weight of desperation
But your obstinate refusal
To succumb to circumstance
Helped define your attitude
Of vigour and valour in equal parts
-
Here is an opportunity
Now is a vacant page
Memories sustain the fires
Set by ferocious dreams

Hello @StuF
Thank you so much for sharing such a poem that was written from your heart.
You have certainly honoured the strong friendship that you shared with your friend who has passed away.......
I wonder if you might consider it to be your most meaningful as in representing how strong your feelings were...
I hope that you find some peace when you read the words now after all of this time.
I was definitely moved when I read your words..
I felt that you covered the whole process and absence felt after losing someone close, beautifully...
I had goose bumps...
I lost my mum last year and the last 3 days I shared with her were and still are surreal..
I would love to keep a copy of your words ..
I wanted to ask you though first rather than just copy them..
They are a gift from you to your friend and belong to the two of you..
My feelings about poetry are that there are the feelings invoked when the writer reads their work...
then there are the feelings of all else who read the poem individually...
So many different opinions..
At the end of the day what do the opinions matter if the poem does it's work by invoking feelings ...
Isn't that the concept of poetry?
Or is there another?
What are your thoughts @StuF as this is your poetry...?
Sophia1
Just a thought ...an idea...to start a conversation...
Perhaps encourage you to choose more of your poetry without marking them first?
ps
I would probably be doing that very think...marking them laugh...

Hi @Sophia1
I meant to reply before now, sorry.
Thanks for your words and reactions.
Of course you can keep a copy of any of my poems 🙂
Yes, "invoking feelings" (or thoughts) is why I'm in this gig. I mean, selfishly, they are for me, but the life they take on when other people read them is cool too.
I'm in the process of choosing another poem...trying to not overthink it too much! 🤣

Hello @StuF
I see sharing your poems as being very brave...
also if you write them for you that is lovely too not selfish in my mind..
I think that you meant that lightheartedly as well..
I do get the overthinking...
Post what you want to enjoy sharing them..this you already know ...
I have none to share that I have written myself...

Hey @Sophia1
One from 23 years ago (I may have posted this one before, not sure)
Different time; different me! 🙂
Nightfall
Twilight sprays across the window
Clouds reflect on the dimming day
Lunar leaves litter a meadow
The infant night now begins play
Ancient lights shine on our faces
Stars long burst still fill the dark sky
Timeless points set in their places
Proof once for all: we do not die
-
My veins swell along with the seas
My blood flows strong, drawn by the moon
My heart beats faster as time slides
From the clock's grasp in a soft swoon
--
Rest is nigh, then comes a new dawn
May our dreams last beyond its break!
Love will rise as the sun is born
With renewed hope for all Life's sake

I have not read that before and again am so impressed by your depth @StuF
You mentioned 23 years ago....
Are you a song writer?
Or would you prefer not to talk about how and why you wrote poetry?
I am intrigued at the same time respect what you wish to share..
Please keep on sharing...
This is actually helping me without you realising..
metaphorically..
I look forward to reading what appears next...

Hi @Sophia1
Thanks again 🙂
23 years ago I was far more acutely unwell with my MH, but also hadn't fully crashed (for the 'final' time) yet. My writing was in overdrive. My physical health was under control, before it took another dramatic turn a couple of years later...
So yeah, different times; different me
I Wish I could write songs! I have a muso mate...we keep saying we should try and work together, but it never happens. Song writing is a whole different discipline, obviously
Anyway, I will keep on sharing. Very glad to be "helping" you

Sorry to hear that you have had such hard times @StuF
Life is just unfathomable...
I have so many strategies and quotes...
When the I have hit a wall ( I tried something else but not accepted)
so the wall expression is not my wording at all...
too tired to change...
breathing is probably my saving grace....that is my telling myself to breathe!
The fact that you were able to write probably helped get you to where you are now..
I have written but not poetry...
I can only write when it comes in to my head though..
I cannot plan it..
Well...here I go...!!!
"You keep saying"...
do you have similar taste in music or both have a wide range..
really the music itself comes after..
the words come first..
many song writers are poets..
dylan is a classic..
I can think of many more.
keep on sharing..
I love it
Thank you for helping me this way..
It is a very different thread to any other on the forums..
I think it just fits for me..
Sophia1😊
