Hi there,
to whoever is reading this
This is my first time writing on a forum or a website like this. I have been going through a lot, I guess we all have…
My mental health has decreased dramatically in the past 6 months.
What has been a major trigger for me was getting sexually harassed at my previous workplace. I’ve also lost someone in the past 2 weeks.
I’ve just started a cert 3 in business, I’ve been at this new job for 3 weeks now.
I thought that leaving my last job would help with my anxiety but my anxiety only feels worse. The pressures of this job are so overwhelming and because of how bad my anxiety has gotten I can’t communicate effectively with my work colleagues. The environment feels toxic too and I have ptsd from my last job that I haven’t gotten any help for.
so I’ve decided that I’m going to quit this new job today. Not work for a month or so and just focus on getting my mental health right. Life is too short and I don’t want to try and push myself to enjoy a job that I simply just don’t.
I thought that building a career would fix everything but my happiness is so much more important to me.

hey @Bella16, welcome to the forums. I'm TuxedoCat, one of the peer workers here on the forums. I hope you feel proud about posting like this for the first time, it's so important to connect with others on our experiences. I hope you find this a supportive space and feel you can support others here too!
And yes, it sounds like you have been through so much. Not only starting a new job and studying, but doing this in the wake of an awful experience of sexual harassment at work and losing someone special to you. It is completely understandable that your MH has been on the decline. And I'm so sorry that all of this has happened at once ❤️
It sounds like you've made a really positive decision for yourself. Do you have an idea of how you want to feel after your month break?
And I know for me, I often put a lot of worth in my career and my job. It often becomes a huge part of my identity. And it's so awesome to hear that your happiness is super important to you. I've recently come a similar realisation and it has been SO liberating.
I also thought I'd tag some of our community guides to say hello and share their wisdom 😊 @Anastasia @AussieRecharger @BPDSurvivor @Faith-and-Hope @HenryX @jem80 @Judi9877 @NatureLover @outlander @Shaz51 @ShiningStar @Snowie @Hams @wellwellwellnez @Zoe7 @Aniela @Boo13 @maddison @pinklollipop15 @Eve7

Hi @Bella16
I just wanted to reach out to welcome you to the forums - it’s great to have you here 💜
I’m so deeply sorry to hear that you were sexually harassed in your previous workplace and that you’ve recently lost someone special in your life and my heart goes out to you 💜
As I sat here listening to this part of your story, I can really appreciate how all of these things have had (and continue to have) such a detrimental impact on your mental health and wellbeing 💜
In my experience, living with anxiety can be absolutely debilitating and given everything that’s been happening for you, it makes so much sense that the traumas that you’ve experienced, in addition to your toxic work environment and the pressures associated with your new position have exacerbated your anxiety 💜
Just from what you’ve shared with us, I got the overwhelming sense that you’ve been reflecting on your life and re-evaluating some of the things that are important to you and as such, I think that’s it’s wonderful that you’ve made the decision to prioritize your mental health and wellbeing 😊
In my experience, taking care of our mental health is so incredibly important and as such, I just ever so gently wondered if you’ve had any thoughts or ideas in relation to how you would like to take care of your mental health?
Also, just while I remember, one of the things that really helped me when I was new to the forums and still finding my way around, was that if you would like to chat with another forum member, or reply to one of their posts, place @ in front of their username just like I did at the start of my post to you i.e. @Bella16 that way, they will receive a message that you have contacted them 😊
Please know that you’re always welcome to reach out here whenever you need to 💜
Take kind and gentle care of yourself,
ShiningStar 💜
