I think I'm going to be going to a lot of weddings.
It's a huge relief.

Hello @moderator @tyme @hanami
StanD here. Hello everyone. I hope everyone had good GF day ..... Or Saturday as it is to us 'sane' ones 😉 jk 💜
Quick question.
Could you please give me any guidance?
I am attempting to research a Lgbtqi Community, that would be suitable for a gay man who would like to make friends. He lives in Victoria.
He is a refugee, & was persecuted in his home country for his sexual preference.
He had moved to Cairo, that has large gay community. He was beaten, robbed & threatened with death. He observed many gay men, that dressed as women. He could not understand why he was continuing to be persecuted & questioned if it is because of his dark skin colour.
If any one can offer me advice, that would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe organisations that can support him, & help him to reverse trauma, celebrate his sexuality - offer company, friendship.
I will tag other members of thread of anyone else can help.
Google is proving useless at moment!
Thanks lovely people. Miss ya, all of course & oops for starting this very old thread ... It was first relevant one that came up in search 'lgbtqi'
Forgive my ignorance -
LGBTIQA+ 🌈😊

Hey @StanD Thank for your post on the Forums!
It's great that you are supporting this person who is identifying as a gay man and finding it challenging to meet similar people. There are a lot of gay Meet Up groups and I would suggest that that is a good place to start. Also joining Facebook groups is also a good place to find a community of similar people.
I hope that helps!
Take care

hi @StanD
im not really sure on specific services in victoria but after a quick search a website called Switchboard Victoria has come up that help support and guide the lbgti community
i hope maybe they can help. well done on reaching out for some support for your friend
also
oh also a service called QLife may also be able to help. they provide free services to the LBGTI community and can also make referrals for the different states services

Thankyou @RiverSeal yes, I considered FB might be an option. I'm not on there. I didn't know about Meetup. ✅
I am learning how severely underfunded this area is. Last year, programs were funded $5000!
It's good to see a few groups taking initiative, & self funded. Like all mental health - it costs, & people are frustrated by lack of resources. Thankyou so much for time ❤️
I have found a group called ManyColouredSky
& FORCIBLY DISPLACED PEOPLE NETWORK .
It seems you have to register to find out what is available in your area.
That gives me 3 or 4 to start investigating.
Thanks @RiverSeal & thankyou for compliments. I like helping😊 .... When I Can xx

Cheers @StanD
I did a Carols by Queerlight a few years ago and Girrrrls Rock, which also has a strong LGBTIQ ethos. Keep looking ... and think outside the box for grassroots groups ... thats my preference anyway....

Sorry @StanD did not read earlier post that you were asking about a gay man. Still ... there have been quite a few groups that I knew way back ... only those I mentioned are recent ones, but I so loved the innovation in both of them. I am sure ... there is also a gay choir ... general ... not carols. Sorry I know mainly music ... but maybe he can look up his other interests and then find a gay group attached ...
