Re: Good Morning!

Hello @TAB if you put the outside blinds up the hot air won't cause radiant heat to build up up in the house. Once the heat hits the window its in the house unfortunately.

Learned that from an environmental scientist who was working as part of a community development initiative through the Uniting Church for heating/cooling for folks on low incomes.

I would put on outside blinds ASAP before you do anything else.  This extreme weather is awful. At least you got insulation in roof and aircon in one room!

An old ex of mine was living in country victoria in a house with no ceiling insulation after he got shafted $$$ by his ex-hairdresser wife. He was the goose that laid the golden egg and he wound up with virtually nothing after she cleared out his compo claim for back injury. L-O-V-E-LY!!! lol 😞

Re: Good Morning!

@TAB

Good to get a tag before I went off to church.  Am still existentially vulnerable and a self doubter.

Met a lady who was comfortable popping into church when she wanted; maybe a handful of times per year.  Guess its horses for courses ... and nothing cast in stone.

Love your commitment to sealing leaks and managing the thermal envelope in your housing.  I am a bit like that, but also see places to improve ... next year ... lol ...

for me housing is a process.

@StuF @Former-Member @Kyle1 @Historylover and all reading along ...

Hope your day is reasonable and your sleep decent.

Grateful, we are not in Libya with the flooding, but just want to acknowledge their grief, tragedy and all the work cleaning up.

Re: Good Morning!

G'day @Appleblossom  🙂

Hoping your day is "reasonable" too, if not better!

And yes, all sorts of terrible things happening overseas 😞

We are indeed relatively lucky here

Re: Good Morning!

@Former-Member  I am going by decades of experience by old long dead friend of family whose house was always cool when we visited at christmas yet no aircon. No sun on walls or windows ok had all round verandah. and big heavy drapes . all windows closed. all doors shut religiously , would get yelled at for having doors open as kid. It works.

fair enough re 'trapping heat' but really trapping first thing in morning temp. ..... its insulation.

um yes doesnt take much, I have been slack. just need drill bit some hooks etc

yeah I know someone who was putting up w partner waiting for their compo and it got knocked back so cya .... lol

Re: Good Morning!

yeah I talk a lot, but actions lagging behind deeds @Appleblossom  hope church was okay..

Re: Good Morning!

Ha ha oh yeah @TAB re: compo lol. Yes thats good you are following advice with cooling. I wish I had heavy drapes.  My room is cool with aircon. Just got to get around to getting power generator now.

Re: Good Morning!

I seem to be too busy eating massive meals then fasting to recover, and using my time somewhat restfully to have watched the news @Appleblossom. Always amazes me, the compassion Middle Easterners have for each other in these circumstances.They are all 'brothers and sisters'. I think westerners could learn a lot from them.

Having a good weekend? Mine's been nice so far. I wish I could lock it in.

Re: Good Morning!

ohh, I havent opened them , but got 'blockout' drapes for 2 worst windows also got like 8mm thick cotton backing to attach to blinds, ok on wall side out of sight . wont work on kitchen window as too much drop , saw ad this morning on town notice board (yes its that small)  for someone who does curtains amongst other things, for the moment have put alfoil on windows but very odd cheap brand that does not want to stick .. you wet the window pane normally and apply foil, pressing it to window and usually takes a bit of gettingoff, not this stuff, think cos had odd pattern embossed in it. also heard of bubblewrap but need to get to Bunnings to get that @Former-Member

Re: Good Morning!

@Former-Member ok  its only 32 outside , not 35 as forecast, and says feels like 24deg re wind.. but in hottest room , kitchen, ok toilet and laundry bit worse, but way better after foil on windows., am in underwear , def not hot, feel almost cool, just had a coffee lol

further down the track am looking at some sort of shade on this side of house even if just a trellis over driveway or hanging shadecloth from eaves to ground like 600 from wall ..

also going to get my aircon unit covered to get the sun off it, as is on afternoon sun side as well
