Re: Writing As A Form Of Therapy

@bipolarbunny @Shaz51 @HenryX

Well, I said I had a new poem. I'm not travelling so well at the moment, but I've wrangled this out. Not sure it's finished, but I pretty much am with it 🙂

Enjoy?

Remains

Happiness rolls down my cheeks

Droplets borne of pure elation

A scream commits me to wonder

At the universal light

There is a certain strength in darkness

Indeed, we cannot be without

Nightmares consolidate our dreams

Guiding us to our destiny

Past deceptive desperation

And unsustainable fears

To the edge of infinity

Beyond all hesitation

Stepping into curiosity

Our will subservient

In the face of imagination

And the mysteries of hope

My tears fall on hallowed ground

Saturating innocence

Through this divine alchemy

Life remains eternal

Hello Stu'

Strong thoughts and feelings expressed in your poem. Moving, and as someone recently used the expression, could be referred to as poignant.

You've mentioned not travelling so well at the moment. I hope that your situation improves quickly for better feelings ahead.

With Best Wishes

@HenryX

Thanks for the feedback on the poem and the hopes for improvement. My situation is not so bad, really, I'm just not reacting well to it at present. I'll get over it 🙂

Part of the problem has been reading other people's stories which are Much worse than mine and the feeling of "What am I so worried about in My life then?"

Anyway, thanks again for the response!

Hello Stu'

I agree that there can be some difficulty when reading life details from others, and keeping our own position in perspective. However, I think it is always easy to minimise our own position and feel that we should be thankful that our position is not worse.

When we read through threads, posts and responses, we see that other people often make similar comments, minimising their own situation and trying to make way for other more severely affected people. I have, at times, reflected on my own situation, that due to a number of factors, including a sense of "hurt pride", that I may not always have sought or used the resources that may have been available to me. Because of my age, some of the resources, that exist now, did not exist earlier in my life. {My 'teen years were just at the end of the era of mental health institutions, asylums.} The consequence, I believe, is that my quality of life may well have been diminished to a significant degree. Also, my capacity to contribute to the community and people around me has also been diminished. So, those people could possibly have missed some contribution that I could otherwise have offered. That may, in part, have been because I didn't think I needed assistance and, if I did think that assistance may have been beneficial, was not prepared to ask for it. There were also issues of social stigma and fear. While there still exists concern about stigma and similar issues, education, information and improved treatments have meant that those social issues have diminished considerably over the past 50 years.

I now believe, by individually recognising our respective positions and thinking of how we can improve our capacity, in addition to the knowledge that we subsequently acquire, we can improve not only our own position, but mutually share with and help those people around us. This forum being one of the available ways by which we can receive and learn, and also extend assistance to others.

The following information is available on the WEB, and also, even more graphic material. I would certainly prefer to suffer a mild form of MI and be able to help others today, than the situation that I may otherwise have been in, as recently as the 1970's

A strong warning about the following material available on the web:

Institutions such as described in the following material existed until the 1960's & 70's

The following is a website which is part of an American course presented by:

lumencandela   Introduction to Psychology Module 15: Therapy and Treatment

There is a great deal of other information available.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how people with psychological disorders have been treated throughout the ages and discuss deinstitutionalization

  • Describe the ways in which mental health services are delivered today, including the distinction between voluntary and involuntary treatment

{I cannot offer any guarantee as to the quality, correctness or accuracy of the website information above, but it is offered as a brief introduction}

Wow @StuF such powerful and beautiful words born from your struggle. Really love the last verse, it speaks to me in so many ways. Definitely don't love that you are struggling, but love the way you can express that struggle in such a powerful way. So awesome my friend xx
