Sounds like your Dad was a great example to follow @Former-Member
My husband does all those things you mentioned too but I usually do the handyman jobs. I have a thing for power tools. Hubby does change the taps washers though. I love the sound of your Dad! Sounds like he didn’t care what other people thought. Definitely a new age man! Good for him.
I vacuumed the hard floors. Figured it would be less effort than sweeping. Now I am sweating to death and taking a quick break before mopping…

Where are you @Oaktree? I'm in Melbourne. It was only 23c today. Wow you're good with power tools! Thats pretty cool. Where I am I don't have a garage to store things in so have to get handymen out. Most recent was having a huge hole in my wall refitted with plasterboard. I'm female but don't do enough fixit kind of things. Housework also used to pile up. I'd make a rotten housewife. Into all kinds of things though, so I'm great for sharing interesting stuff. My last partner and I separated 13 years ago. It wasn't a good match. I'm glad I walked out. Should have left him years ago. I have often wondered what he is doing with his life now. Been to the doctor and have picked up my script. Got to try and squeeze in getting meds tomorrow before the xmas/new year break when chemists are closed and there's medicine scarcity! Tomorrow I get my new fridge delivered, I'm hoping that I got a good deal. It was 30% off - similar ones that size were selling for $1200 elsewhere I got mine for $800 including purchasing insurance

Fridge sounds like a great deal @Former-Member
I am in Perth. Feels hot in the house as it’s been closed up since the 3rd of December due to not letting new cat out. No flyscreens intact and no aircon. I got my mopping finished and put another load of laundry on. Feeling happy and proud of my efforts today. Think I have achieved enough for the day. Just goes to show that I can work hard when I want to. I am female also. 52 years old. I have been happily married for 30 years. We built this house 29 years ago we got the keys. It badly needs renovations now. We don’t have the money and no chance of a loan as hubby is 63 and only working casual. When hubby retires in like 4 years we will use his super to fix the house.

@Oaktree Thats no good not having aircon. I only have it in my room, its all I could afford. I got it subsidised through a Victorian Government initiative but my meterbox had to be ripped out anyway so added cost. I'm so glad I bought it. That was several years ago. Was able to use my savings to buy it. I just go to my room in the heat to cool down. I applied for a green loan plus a gov't loan to install solar back in October. As far as I know my excess electricity will be fed back into the grid. I went solar because the prices of electricity are set to rise again. What I do know is houses are going to have to require lots of modifications to meet green targets in future and that includes up to date insulation in walls and ceilings, double glazed windows and everything being switched electrical power. I realised this would be mandated eventually. Knew someone off facebook who attended a town meeting about it a few weeks ago. Its going to be very costly for people to do these modifications

Hey @Former-Member @Dimity @Oaktree ,
As I read your posts about tidying, I look around my place and think I need to do some of that.
I'm onto my second set of solar panels, so I don't get the rebate.
We had our roof redone this week. We had to get our solar panels decommissioned for the new roof so we decided just to get new panels.

I love this thread for that exact reason, reading what others are doing spurs me on to doing some cleaning of my own. It gives me great motivation. I am looking at getting solar next year. Should save me plenty.

Hello @tyme nice to see you on here! Just cooking some curry while I read your post. Yes I only went solar recently. It was a good move for me so far. The roof probably needed more panels but I'm happy with what I have. Do you have any idea of how much money you saved on your electricity bill after switching to solar? My greenhouse gas emissions are now almost zero. I used half as much electricity but it was not reflected in any savings really. My solar power got hooked up to the grid a couple of weeks ago to funnel excess solar power generated back into the grid so it may mean it gives me some money back in my pocket. Here is my electricity bill for October and November. I got it installed in mid October. I will show you my December bill when it comes in next time.

We lived off the grid. Didn't pay anything. @Oaktree .
We have a heated pool, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, massive house... so it's pretty good.

Brilliant effort today @Oaktree @Former-Member . Well done. Earlier today I spent a couple of hours cleaning but haven't caught up yet. The cat is shedding which adds to the work - I used a damp cloth on the recliner and got heaps of fur.
@tyme I have solar panels and thus far I've been a net generator but feed-in tariffs are pretty low. This winter the new reverse cycle a/c was much cheaper than previous years' gas heating but not as warm.
I've hunted out my gift wrap stash and sent off some parcels. That spareroom cupboard needs attention, but at least the stuff in it is out of sight.
