Re: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script

I know quite a number of borderlines who are teachers or nurses. Otherwise, they are in the 'helps' industry.... --- that is interesting @BPDSurvivor

Hello @Former-Member , @Oaktree@Judi9877@TideisTurning

Re: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script

By the way, @Shaz51 , it's not a fact. It's just my noticings.

So many borderlines i've come across are in the teaching or nursing profession. I also know others who are social workers.

I do believe this is somehow linked to a borderline's ability to 'feel' and empathise with people.

What's your perspective on this?

I do believe this is somehow linked to a borderline's ability to 'feel' and empathise with people.--- yes I think soo too @BPDSurvivor

how do you find teaching ?

Re: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script

You're right @BPDSurvivor  i do empathise strongly with the aged customers.  They tell me things and I really feel for them.
ive always been a sensitive shy girl and now I know why.
I feel so much of what others say or how they're feeling.

Re: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script

Totally agree @BlueBay .

That is definitely a strength borderlines can draw on.

@Shaz51 , In terms of teaching, I love being with the 'troubled', 'difficult' kids. These are the ones I thrive on and it makes my job worth while. I get terribly bored with 'good' kids. My next career goal is to teach within the youth justice system.

On the other hand, I don't like working closely with adult teachers. I'm learning (and trying) to do so, and I've been told I do it well, but I can't say I get the same oomph out of it as opposed to working with kids. I 'force' myself to work with adults because I know it's part of my next phase of learning. Hence I'm in a leading, coaching, mentoring role....

But yes, @BlueBay , I can certainly see how your compassion and empathy can be felt by the customers you work with. That's an awesome trait!

Re: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script

Oh, i didn't know that, re empathy - caring roles.
Guess we like to please.

Do you think it's that need for approval? Acceptance?

I have to go back read thread again.
