Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

@Phoenix_Rising  I think that is because as @NikNik said earlier, empathetic and caring types do think they can help.  But sometimes for whatever reason, it all goes as much of a muddle for them as it is for you.  They leave, but that doesn't help you it makes it worse because as much as you probably want to at times, you can't leave.  So you have sought your self care in isolation so you don't have to face the agony of that anymore.  Which is totally understandable.  It would be very hard to have that happen time and time again.

What can we do to help come out of Burnout & or Compassion Fatigue?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

I'm seeing some of both in me. I'm concerned that I react to simple busy productivity as if I was in a crisis situation. Adreneline surge stuff, having trouble settling down and sleeping at the end of the day. Have slowly pulled out of a lot of community things and interests because I'm too tired to be reliably committed to them. Bad dreams are a problem too. Mostly confused versions of the stuff I'm trying to deal with day to day- unpleasant rather than nightmarish, but they don't set up the best start to the day.

Good question @Former-Member
We're going to talk about boundaries and holistic self-care plans in about 5 mins 🙂

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

a lot of the burn out symptoms could also be from so many other situations/i.e. trauma... how do you know the difference?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

I can relate to that @Smc

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

Great question @Former-Member. I was kind of thinking the same. How do I know what is what?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

@Phoenix_Rising. As I'm in this cycle of depression - I find it hard to practice self care. It all seems too hard.
If I am trying to look after ME & my child needs something - it's enough to send me over the edge - irritable - rage - further withdrawing from my own care

Re: Topic Tuesday // Staying safe while supporting others // April 18, 7pm AEST

I think I've had multiple 'burnouts' in my life and still struggle years later from my last big one to lift energy levels back up again. This was not particularly from caring, more from the stresses of life in general.
