@Lise07 It's good to hear that the term can still have some helpful meaning for you and captures something of your experiece.

Usually We would just say mental health challenges that include depression and the need for isolation when it is too much. This has been necessary as we have had people (particually family) who have been precious and lack understanding to some situations 😕

A really common experience @Determined! Often we just 'get on with it' as best we can, until much later when we start connecting the dots.

A few weeks before actually receiving the diagnosis I admitted to my girlfriend that I feel like I have "emotional IBS". I still think it fits

@Former-Member
Hope im getting thru.
I recently tried to explain it this way to someone. When the average person picks up on an emotion like jealousy they recognise it & are able to brush it off. For me with bpd the attacking neg emotions goes right thru my body. It gets trapped inside me then affects my thoughts. The emotions are so strong. I want to get them out of my body & head but i cant. Im consumed by the emotions. This happened to me very recently & it triggered off thoughts of wanting to self harm in front of others. I wanted to display my intense pain for everyone to see so theyd stop doing it to others.

Thank you for sharing this @Former-Member Sounds like an incredibly painful experience and like you really wanted that sense of understanding. I really do hear you.
I once described it to a friend as physically having very intense grief, perhaps the grief of losing a pet or a loved one - but to seemingly "smaller" things such as an argument with a friend, or someone not responding to your message. It can be a very visceral experience & not always easy to manage. That's what makes those living with BPD so strong and emotionally intelligent in my eyes

All i got told as a kid is your just too sensitive. My mother hated of course i reacted. Its taken her to age 83 to stop being horrible to me to get that its her doing it not me.
If people are normal & nice to me im a very happy friendly person lol

@Former-Member Thanks for your honest description. For me, that really helps to get a sense of some of what the experience of emotion feels like. Sometimes it can be hard to find the words like these in the heat of the moment, but it certainly helps us understand here.
