Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

@Glisten

Fair enough. I am looking at getting into an advisory role with Sane so it would be good to have the certificate to back me up

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

That sounds awesome @Oaktree .

I sit on an advisory board for my local mental health service and a couple others. It's great experience hey. I'm trying to get in to Peer Work. Currently doing my Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and applying for a few jobs.

I think there should be a register of lived experience roles so they are easier to find.

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

Hey @Oaktree ! That's great!

How exciting! I'll be interested to hear how it goes @Oaktree

@Ainjoule , we shared about subscribing to something like https://au.jora.com/

I use it to see the Lived Experience/Peer Work jobs around and they sed me emails every night.

No pressure - only if you are interested.

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

Hey @MJG017 ,

I hear your hesitations about thinking forward. I also hear that it can be exciting to see a door open for you.

We will support you in whatever decision you make.

In a way, it may be interesting to have a 'study' group online for those that are studying the Cert IV. I guess you can share experiences that way.

I'll be interested to hear how the chat goes for you.

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

So i just had my chat to the program manager at LEWP.  She was very nice and basically echoed everything I've been told here.  So i'm beginning to think some of it may be true 😂  So i've registered for the enrollment for the Cert IV and just waiting to hear back.  Always waiting to 'hear back' these days!  She did say they used to do scholarships for the 2023 ans 2024 but it's hard to get them now here in SA.  But the govt subsidies here are very good.  The course is $6000.  $1200 with govt subsidy and $500 with a concession card.

It's through Relationships SA as well.  Apparently they just started doing this training for the first time and they've been so helpful to me with their adoption support that I thought i'd stick with them for this.  It starts Feb 10 if all goes well, and mostly online with some on-site days.

edit:  You beat me by 12 seconds @tyme 😁

@tyme  A study group would be an great idea.  In our chat today about the course she said they did encourage students to form their own online study groups, but I know not everyone likes the idea of that so it would be nice to have one here, even just as a second one for some different ideas.

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

Absolutely @MJG017 !

Even sharing ideas and giving feed back to each other is great. When I was doing it, we needed to share our workplan with fellow stakeholders to get feedback.

There were also assignments that needed mock meetings etc. Good to gain insight about what you include in role plays etc.

I'm keen and eager.

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

@tyme @MJG017

I went to the information session last night but I am not sure if I should apply. Apparently they get between 60 and 80 applications each year and there are only 30 places. If I do apply there are 14 questions on the application so it might be helpful to bounce my answers off you?

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

Please do @Oaktree ! I'd be happy for you to bounce ideas. You never know unless you try I guess.
