So sorry @outlander your post did not show up in my notifications. Well I think you are doing the right thing by getting a second opinion and also taking the support worker with you especially if she has medical knowledge.
that is a ridiculous amount of time spent travelling for a 5 minute consult so a second opinion closer would be the right thing to do.
