Something’s not right

disclosing very uncomfortable information

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

@Former-MemberI have urges to self harm quite a lot at the moment ( it has been many months now since the last time). Journalling sounds like a great idea, I use many creative arts/writing based activities to help me explore my world. I also find it to be a great way of unpacking what is going on with certain feelings and emotions. I sometimes just name things for the sake of naming them and then try and see how they all fit together.

Given that you have stated that you are not in a good space right now, I wouldn't suggest somethng that could potentially provide you with more triggers such as writing and naming what is going on.

I live with my head buried in headphones. I have painstakingly created numerous playlists to help me out of various emotional situations. I jokingly refer to my portable music player and headphones as my 'distress tolerance kit'.

If chatting on here keeps you 'distracted' then I encourage you to continue to do so. What are some of your favourite things to do when you are feeling this way? what have you tried in the past?

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

hi @Doc_Gonzo

i deal with self harming everyday and its rare that i get through a day without doing it.

yeah i keep making new playlists as well

yeah the jouranlling didnt really help as it is still talking about whats going on now 😞

yes at the moment this is distracting me from doing anything.

just distractions usually help

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

Do you like watching tv @Former-Member? Any series that you enjoy?

Pinterest is something that also helps me stay busy when I need. There are some amazing resources on pinterest including ideas for creative activities like I'm imagining @Doc_Gonzo was talking about

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

yeah @Former-Member

i love watchng greys anatomy!!!

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

Well we have something in common there! I'm a HUGE Grey's fan and have been from the start (what feels like a billion years ago)! Yay! I keep checking whether there are new eps out but they're not yet on Google Play at least 😞 do you know when it's back from the break? Should be soon!

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

um i think the whole series is released in september. i cant wait for it!

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

@Former-Memberone of my favourite distractions is plastecine. I find it very engaging as I can smash it, squoosh it, mould it, shape it and generally just play with it.

I am hoping to one day take up sculpting and use plastecine as a practice for working with clay. Not much of a TV fan myself as I find my mood generally gets worse when I am sitting idle. Music is always my number one grounding tool and it is generally always on.

Is there anything that you have found that helps when you are feeling like this? anything from your past you may have let slip?

Distractions are a good thing to have at times and at other times finding something that is engaging and attention demanding can also be of benefit.

Distractions sounds like a great title for a poem.

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

I'm up to episode 9 of season 13 because I get them through the play store. My last Grey's dose was all the way back in November last year though. It's so long ago 😞

Did you watch Private Practice?
