@Jynx so to use the term queer, is that derogatory?
I've had gay and lesbian friends and to my mind the only difference between me and a lesbian sexual orientation.
I guess I really don't understand why there is so much hype about who you believe you are when it comes to your sexuality and why should it matter? I know that is a very basic way of putting things and again apologies if it's offensive.
I would like to be able to turn around and tell some of my "Christian" friends that they are full of it and to shove their prejudice where the sun don't shine, but I would like to back up my statements with facts if that makes sense.
The term 'queer' used to be derogatory, and I think some of the older generation in the community still find it to be so. The community seems to have reclaimed the word, and I use it to describe myself because it's easier than using the acronym (LGBTQAI+) or to say all of the queer labels that I identify with (gay/demisexual, genderqueer/nonbinary).
I don't understand the hype either, I'm literally hurting no one with my gender and sexuality. But it's a pretty complex issue, seems to boil down to folks fearing that which is different to them. I found an article that is exploring the origins of homophobia, you can read through it here.

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time right now. Do you have anyone else that you can talk to for support such as friends or family on the outside?
I hope today gets better or you.

In the formatting bar at the top of the text box, there's a quotation mark symbol - this quotes the post you're responding to!
