That must have been very confronting for your mum @Snowie but no need to take it out on you. My mother’s nursing home cost over a million dollars!!!! We had to sell her home and then they still take money from her pension. She’s looked after so well she’ll probably outlive us all. After having pneumonia she’s picked up again.

She won't have any upfront to pay because she has no assets @Eve7. Doesn't even have super. Only thing she has is her pension.
They can be really expensive but I don't see an alternate besides stick her in a crummy public home where she doesn't even have her own room or bathroom.
Hope you are going ok hon and you've gotten through the worse part.

ohh i see, i can imagine it must've been quite a shock for mum then - at least now she's aware before tomorrow's tour. is she open to the public one if costs become an issue?
@Snowie i was about to say that was extremely quick- and then read the morning prep part haha sounds delicious though!! my day's been good, doesn't feel like a Tuesday... probably because of public holiday making it feel like a Monday for me. i was supposed to apply for e-visas for my family this morning but completely forgot, guess i'll need to get it done tonight!

@rav3n the public one hasn't a good rep. You don't even have your own room or bathroom. It's attached to the hospital here. I would rather help her pay for private.
e-visas sound exciting. Are they wanting to come to visit?

My mum is in a lovely place with her own room, bathroom, living room and balcony that can be enclosed but still the cost is high. We’ll get most of that back which is good but we miss out on any increase it would have made.
Im feeling a bit better today than yesterday but it’s still a slow and painful process @Snowie I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow ❤️

Thats so nice to hear your mum is in a good place @Eve7 One less thing for you to have to worry about. I think having at least their own room and bathroom is really important. Have that space when they need some 'alone' time.
I do think tomorrow will go better. I think she just got a shock today and didn't know how to handle it.
It must be a slow and painful process. I just hope that it's all worth it for you in the end hon.
Have you got people around you helping?

oh my... yeah that doesn't sound decent or comfortable at all. @Snowie
nope my immediate family live in Victoria with me, we're planning to travel to Bali! i did all the booking stuff so i was supposed to do the e-visa for everyone - my parents aren't too tech-savvy. i've never done an e-visa before, hopefully it doesn't take too long! how's your Japan prep - all ready to go!?

Oh thats no good @Eve7 I wish I could just come and look after you hon. Give you the care you so deserve.
A trip to Bali sounds like fun @rav3n It's a beautiful place.
I think Japan prep is almost done. Just need to get my meds and make sure I have the correct documentation I need. I don't think I'll need it all, but better to be safe just in case. Oh, and have to pack as well. Lots of luggage with ski's and boots too.
