Geez @Jacques when was he born roughly ? so he was from the 'egg' not the yolk lol re Brandenburg and Berlin.
Father was from Schlesien, which got given to Poles after WW2 think farthest south east corner of Germany, but over the border now, ie east of Saxony, where he grew up was only 100ks north of Prague as well

Dad was born in 1949 just after the war, my grandmother got 2 days to have dad and then she was forced back to working in the coal mines, she used to put dad beside her while she worked, we think that is what he got sick from.
Wow, your poor dad, life was so hard in the east.
Oh Saxony is a beautiful part of Germany. Does he still live there? Do you get a chance to go and see him?
