I don't think the container Idea is bad at all all @TAB . People do it. My underground space is only small though.
5.5 Mtrs by 2.4 Mtrs . The basics. Bed, TV, stereo, fridge sink etc. Like a 18 ft van. but under the house. inline fan for air. Very important, and you have to cool the air you bring in or you'll be back where you started on a hot day. When the power goes off for a long time, these sort of things pay for themselves. I had to use a lot of steal n concreate being under the house, but out in the
back yard, containers will work if they are water proof and braced up in the ceiling centre. One catch if its not under the house with gravel channel drainage right around it is, in big rains, it becomes a boat and they have been known to float out of the ground. Slopes are best or you'll need a sump pump.

I did have vague ideas of having a water tank under house .. like a giant aircon lol
anyway all mostly forgotten ideas from persians , Indians etc re windcatchers, insulation, having pools of water on perimeters, lattice work etc, breeze w shade..
