Re: Tabalugas
i dont know that shops would accept cheques @SmilingGecko think personal cheques were always seen as a bit dodgy in a way. bank cheques used t be good as gold co you had to buy them and could just write 'cash' on them so anyone could cash them

Re: Tabalugas
I think the stores will accept anything if theres a potential for looting going on and eftpos is down but you may be right about bank cheques. Never thought of it @TAB Dont know if they still do them. Spoke to my credit union today and they don't do cheque books anymore its all being phased out. Saw an article in The Age today saying hardly anybody uses cash so another step towards a cashless society. Anyway might go and eat something. Tofu, noodles and veg stirfry tonight. Don't feel like cooking really, just throw in the pan and stir lol Have a good night

Re: Tabalugas
that's fine @SmilingGecko I'm just saying cheques would be worthless.
Modern currencies are not tied to Gold standard anymore. so if aust has say $trillion cash on ly have to have , well no where near it in gold.
banks are allowed to lend money they do not have . thats how they are so rich.
so say you bank at Bank A it has $1milion in deposits on books. by law it only has to keep 1/5th of that on hand at any one time. so if people all start writing cheques , they cant cover it, they would not be accepted.
remember modern economic crashes ? people rush to ATMs to get Cash, not cheqes, does not work.
My father was child in depression, family lost everything in the war etc. he didnt keep cash. he had gold bars and not at the bank either... just saying even cash not much use ok USD maybe but gold , silver, thats it.

Re: Tabalugas
Yes I know what you mean regarding bank runs. Saw someone mention cheques apart from tangible gold and silver today. I have not bought silver in a while. Thought having cheques on standby may be another good idea based on what I saw.
Just made a stirfry. Have got into the habit of using coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. It tastes so much better. Just couldn't be bothered this evening cooking. Its going to be a long hot summer @TAB. Saw someone who did a screenshot on twitter saying it cost him $1K for electricity in his apartment in Australia on his last bill. I presume it was quarterly. My bills are now monthly for some reason.
