Share a cuppa?

Re: Share a cuppa?

You make it sound so easy @ArraDreaming haha. I'll have to give it a go sometime. Do you like to cook? What's your go-to/favourite dish to make?

Re: Share a cuppa?

It is easy @Jynx!! The only thing you may not already have is yeast and that’s really cheap to buy. You can also make them with Greek yoghurt and SR flour, I’m pretty sure it’s 1 part gy to 3 parts SR flour, an even cheaper and faster way to make them, no waiting for it rise!
@Bow
Ahhhhhh
good tip, *moves bowls to bathroom*

Re: Share a cuppa?

@Jynxyeah I do a fair bit of cooking, I like to make things from scratch where I can if time permits, I like cooking Asian food, also I’m learning to make curries.
I like a good home made gnocchi…
my favourite dish…. Pan fried chicken with a mushroom sauce with tarragon and mustard, served with greens and mash.

the downfall is at the age of 28 i cannot make mashed potato 🥲 the other half always has to make that

Re: Share a cuppa?

Oh wow @ArraDreaming that's awesome! Curries are hard if you wanna make from scratch. I've made some decent thai curry paste from scratch, turned out delicious. Indian curries are harder, I usually get a spice mix for those!

Haha mash potato got you stumped? Hey we all have stuff that just never clicks! I always manage to mess up somehow whenever I make baked goods. Last time I made scones (possibly the easiest recipe in the world) they all came out very lumpy indeed!

Re: Share a cuppa?

I tend to under cook the potatoes
Last time I did it which was the first time I made it from scratch, it took so long and I had potato EVERWHERE, it was a mess, I tried to impress the wife and make it @Jynx but it didn’t quite work out how I planned.

I used frozen mash until then you know the one that comes in a bag frozen and you just put in a saucepan 😂

Re: Share a cuppa?

Hahaha @ArraDreaming chaos!! Potato Chaos! Sounds like an indie ska band lol.

I usually chuck the taters on first before anything else, and cook them even a little longer than maybe necessary. Then I have a silicone masher so I can mash em right there in the pot. Key is to use LOTS of butter, and a splash of milk, to get em extra creamy. Also, adding some garlic/onion powder, and chopped chives if you wanna go extra fancy for your mash.

Never used frozen mash but it sounds better than that stuff, 'Deb' I think? It's like powdered mash, and my sister used to eat it allll the time, she loved it. To me, it was super gross haha so poor mum had to make two batches, one standard mash one deb mash.

Re: Share a cuppa?

Yeah this stuff is legit @Jynx Birds Eye brand
We don’t use it any more though haha 😆 Been banished from our house my other half would rather just make it herself then have me pull out the frozen stuff
Yeah I know the powder shit you mean… haha
In fairness I didnt learn to cook until the last five or so years, I used to live off frozen meals, plain pasta with cheese or noodles 😅 so I have grown a lot!!

Re: Share a cuppa?

Haha she will not settle for frozen that's funny @ArraDreaming

Oh nice one! Yeah cooking is legit an amazing skill to have, I'm so grateful my mum taught me. I've had some epic failures over the years too, but once you get the hang of it it's a huge difference, being able to make delicious and nourishing food at home. With how expensive take away is these days as well, it is really handy to be able to cook. The only thing is trying to come up with what you're gonna make every single time!

Re: Share a cuppa?

yeah exactly! @Jynx and I love cooking but trying to get the little ones to eat what we have spent time making is half the battle… I try and only cook the fanciest of meals for us adults, they aren’t having the pizzas tobight because they took too long to rise, only just got them in the oven…

we rarely rarely get takeaway, too expensive

Re: Share a cuppa?

@Jynx it’s turned into a wine and pizza at home date night (when these pizzas finally hurry up) so I’m gonna go, but good chats!! have a good weekend
