I'm familiar with Brix. I have heard of consumers buying refractometers to test the nutrient content of produce with Brix readings on curezone.com @tonys Had no idea it was heat that was doing that to crops.  Makes me wonder what is going on with the farm I buy from. Anyway have a nice evening. Don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. Got a lot of stuff around the house to do

It has become a 'rule of thumb' to expect that 1 Baume = 1.8 Brix = 18 g/L sugar = 1% potential alcohol. It is important to remember that Baume and Brix do not actually measure a sugar concentration or sugar weight per unit volume. Instead they measure the specific gravity of a solution, or a volume measurement only.

okay , in another life, I lived in grape growing area. ok reason was there was nothing to do directly with that , ok maintenance and construction of water mains.

@ Tab 450 MSCL Manifold like 1992 as apprentice . made the lot, flanges,  all of the flanges were plate at beginning. Everything except actual pipe made by me. ok other end had 32 mm blank welded into it lol.  @tonys @Former-Member @StuF @Glisten @Appleblossom

@TAB   well,  carbohydrate  mate,  but we don't want to build a rocket ship to mars do we,  so  us green house growers use laymen's terms.     Point was,   heat becomes the limiting growth factor.

Increasing levels of other growth factors will not improve growth  beyond the level of the limiting growth factor,  be it light,  nutrients,  humidity,  and so on.   @Former-Member  senses that the change around us is not just media hype.  worlds deserts are on the increase.  Forests on the decrease  and  supply induced inflation  for raw materials on the increase,  Think I paid 40 grand more for  N P K this year than last.   Couldnt  even buy Calcium nitrate for a few months.  Thousands spent on pad and fan cooling,  thermal shade screens,  misting and pulse fog systems,  extraction fans,  and a hole lot more just to keep things a bit cooler.  I'll send you a pick of my glass house and the huge Priva process controller I bought to run it one day  This is the second year now its struggled to maintain setpoint  temp.   Thats   bad..  

I'm an old bugger and things are changing now,  faster than Ive ever seen. 

Brix ,  sticks,   puppy dog licks,   doesnt mater.  Its getting hotter and people and plants are going to

struggle.

Anyway,   if you can find it,  The whale movie,   Its not about a whale.   just a damn good movie.

Think tomorrow I'm going to devote to thinking about good movies.

Yes inflation is getting worse with de-dollarisation things like fertiliser hard to get or increased in price. Lots of farmers being forced off farms. Seems like Bill Gates is buying lots of farmland lately.  I think you got out while you could @tonys.

Thankyou @Former-Member .   Yes it was a very hard discission.  Partner up or scale up.  Not at my age.

more elevation, equals   Transport costs.      Move south. I Need substitute lighting.   Market garden and flower trade is just to intense lately.   Hand over to younger minds while its still going OK.   But hey,   for a guy like me,   its tough letting go. 

We used to test the vase life of our roses all the time in a little controlled cabinet.  Thats when I first noticed year on year,  ever so slight,   a decline.   Its a race.   Science verses rapidly increasing change

in all manner of things  around us, including human behaviour and migration patterns. 

I had turtle eggs hatch out in a sand pile near the house.   Last 2 years they were all female.

No wonder I like to loose myself in movies these days.
