Re: Good Morning!

Good morning and good afternoon @Former-Member @TAB @MDT @Former-Member @Emelia8 @Meowmy @Shaz51 @frog @tyme @Daisydreamer @Former-Member @Anastasia @Boo13 @wellwellwellnez @maddison @Snowie @NatureLover @Clawde @Peri @Eve7 @pinklollipop15 @Aniela @Owlunar @greenpea @outlander @Zoe7 @RedHorse @Dimity and all forumites here. I hope your day is going well!

I’ve just had a phone appointment with my Tafe counsellor and considering I felt bad and unmotivated at the start of the appointment, she managed to help change my mindset around with me having time on my hands in between waiting to see if I’ve got accepted into the online mental health course. By that, I mean she gave me a list of links to free online courses that I can do to keep myself entertained and motivated which I really appreciated and didn’t expect. I’ve been having trouble with boredom although when I couldn’t sleep early this morning, I went online to the library app I’ve got and rediscovered my love of cross stitching so later on this morning, I found an old piece  of stitching I’d started this year - a freehand design - and picked it up again to work on and so far, I’m really enjoying it. I think being bored is something as a person I struggle with as I’ve been told I’m high functioning and need things to be on the go to keep me busy and entertained which is why I struggle with boredom. Anyway, so far I’ve got my boredom problem solved for today at least with plans to lion at the online learning later in the day with some courses that I’ve taken an interest in. The best news is my counsellor said she’d help me with my resume so I can put all the online learning courses I do into my resume as points of interest for potential employment later on which I see is a great thing on her behalf.

Take care and stay safe!

Re: Good Morning!

Yeah its the Australian dream @TAB
I don't personally subscribe to it. I think what you do in life is more important than what you own.
Don't get me wrong, it's good here in Aus. But I think housing is a mugs game for the big cities.
I could enter the property market with a loan and a full time job. But the job would be boring and the house would not be in a popular area.. what's the point of having a house in an area that doesn't sell or attract people.

Real estate is a weird industry. I'd rather be a real estate agent and earn commission on properties that are sold.

Re: Good Morning!

Good to hear @Judi9877 😊 thanks for the tag.  You're sounding really positive

Re: Good Morning!

Big cities will always be more pricey. I'm more interested in other things and chasing them tbh.

Re: Good Morning!

I know how you feel @Judi9877 re boredom.
This is why I needed to leave my old job and truly let me mind go.
Yesterday I realised that yes although I am at home much more than ever - bit like lockdown - I need to go places with my mind. My brain atm is a bit like a car that needs a good drive.

Re: Good Morning!

sorta been in exact same situation over the years @MDT  as in cant/dont want to work fulltime at least in the one job, and anything that could more realistically have afforded, wouldnt have wanted to have lived there either lol and it those areas would have had near Zero capital gain .. which is sort of self defeating if you look at it that way.

It is what it is. Am still , well, dreaming about getting a cheap block somwhere and making some sort of structure on it, the only goal really is not to pay rent.

Australia is one of the worst places in the World to be a renter, no rights, no security.

ok have read what others have done in past like uni students in Germany living on trains with a cheap train pass eg lol , just go to lectures, then few laps on train, and repeat lolz, guess it clean, cheap, safe, comfortable lol , or just get a job that supplies accom, like fifo, or station worker, or get govt or council  job in the country with 3br house to yourself for $40/wk lol

@MDT  ... 😊

Re: Good Morning!

Lol @TAB
Yeah. I think culture has a role in it too tbh.
Mainstream historical views about what it is to be Australian - clothes line out the back verandah out the front and an old rocking chair.

What I think people my age want when they say affordable housing is a lot more than just that. Its happiness, doing something they like, security, good people, entertainment, fun and ultimately they wont admit this but perfection. It doesn't exist without Supreme sacrifice.
I was reading last night about an old colleague of mine. Did law in Melbourne, then went overseas to study, now working in safe government job and will do PLT very soon. She's nice, attractive and has a place near the beach. I'm amazed at the success but I realsied that it probably started very early on. Probably had support.

Barrista this morning - came to Aus at 14. From Thailand. Couldn't speak English. Now he's working in cafes.

I think with me - this year is about focusing in what I CAN do. Not what I SHOULD do by standards of society.

Re: Good Morning!

what's PLT ? @MDT  you can't worry about what others have done , yes likely she had a lot of help.See stories these days of 23 years old with $200k deposits that they got from working at maccas or $1million from some home business  .. think its BS lol only true thing is that they have the property and even then could be co owning or God forbid, renting and just talking trash ..lol

Re: Good Morning!

That sounds wonderful @Judi9877 let us know if there are any useful courses you want to share 🙂 Sounds like some good suggestions, have a great day!
