Good @Former-Member
Its a musical instrument pitched lower than concert pitch A = 440Hz
A = 415 Hz Used in baroque music
Not sure if it will put my playing out so not using it a lot ... as the distance between holes is ever so slightly further.
Nerd Warning

but others will argue ... in fact pitch was quite variable historically ... standardisation is useful and modern ... I just got upset by continually ramping the pitch up .... like everybody ramps up the speed of "normal" ... anyway thats wot I rekon!
Slow down those cars at my local roundabout. Plants trees ... and we can all OOooommmmm...
And Pachelbel ... at 415

It also plays into my beef with people who go on and on about their perfect pitch ...

I think I may have used velvet soap in the past but stopped using it. I did not know it was better than detergent for cleaning cups and pots! My nextdoor neighbour as a child used to have a dishwasher set of tongs with a soap canister at the end for washing dishes. We just used detergent at home. That story of you in the army @TAB using that idea to wash was cool. Wanted to say I watched an army marine from the USA online a month or so ago talk about preparedness and told folk during covid to get MRE stocked up. Guess what? I have MRE and apparently its used by the Australian Army! Is it as constipating as they say it is? I'm just using it for emergency food supply only

yes, now that you mention it, we had soap holder a cage thing with handle like 50 years ago now lol @Former-Member ah dont know re them saying makes you constipated, that's probably as much to do with lack of water, (we were allowed 2 water bottles a day , so 1.5 litres maybe) this is out bush and not having time or place to go whenever you feel like it rather then leaving it til you really have to ..same thing happened to me in boyscouts lol, like 3 days then ..phew lol

.. anyway ,,, re 'ratpacks' or ration pack 1 man 1 day or MRE or whatever they call it now, thought they are very dear? can make your own a lot cheaper, just anything in individual small cans. biscuits and canned cheese where novelties in 80s but can buy cheese and crackers now lol as no one has time for anything anymore lol also can get condensed milk in tube now, they had jam in tube (woop) also butter, sure theres something else and like packet meals and a cooker @Former-Member
KFS .(kn!fe fork spoon is good) also good small canopener(keep on a string around neck )
cheap laser cut kn!ves can open a can easily these days too.
these are brilliant too, can use as saucepan as well as cup and fits around a canteen, also hexamine stove
can boil water and warm stuff up with these, oh and a need a water filter bag and a compass if you want to go that far lol
1:50,000 maps avail from walking places if you have somewhere in mind you want to go lol
just need tent backback sleeping bag folding shovel etc and can last a week with food you can carry lol

I used to play one of those at primary school @Appleblossom!!! I did not know anything about Baroque pitch but it does sound a lot more mellow than the high piercing sounds of a different type of modern pitch in the video. But yes the sounds are very different. I was unaware that everything nowadays mostly was tuned to 440hz. When I was at high school we had a baroque recorder group and they played those "big" recorders while the choir would sing. The music was pretty good. They used to perform for the elderly and in supermarkets. The recorder I had was a Yamaha and made out of some kind of plastic possibly. The songs we did were quite basic I never got into baroque later on at high school and don't even know if the recorders were 415hz like yours is now 💙

Hey @TAB I recognise those utensils, my Dad had one with the pins in it like the picture! He never told us why it looked that way never got into a discussion about it but he was in the British Air Force after the war and was stationed in the desert regions. I think he may have brought it back with him when he immigrated to Australia.
Yes the MRE is expensive. I pay it off $10/week interest free over 12 months using Zip Pay. So its no big deal. I just got a months supply that is all. The marine I watched also mentioned crackers and cheese as you said, tinned meat, lots of rice and powdered milk which lasts for ages. Coles have plenty of powdered milk. Nobody would think about getting it apart from amassing toilet paper!
I have a friend on a budgetting site who has got metal shelving filled room full of food supplies. Shes worse than me with her canning and dehydrating. But is on a low income like us and manages to get by from having to fend for herself as a child

Hi @Judi9877 so nice to hear from you but sorry you are feeling low. I was experiencing the exact same feelings (low, teary, and not knowing what to do with myself). I still don't have any answers and I am just taking it one day at a time. Trying to get by as best I can at the moment. Some days are okay and some days are such a struggle.
I am back at the office now Mon-Fri instead of working from home through the summer so I was getting used to a new routine. It was horrible some days and other days it was good to have a structure.
But I also know this isn't forever and I already want to move forward but am just staring in the abyss and have no clue what my next move should be. I am trying to hold on for at least a year in this role and to get a house deposit but I keep losing sight of the bigger picture at times and don't feel strong enough most days to even focus on that.
