3 most famous birds singing one by one The common nightingale or simply nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos), also known as rufous nightingale, is a small passerine bird best known for its powerful and beautiful song. It was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now ...

Re: Everything Birds

Hi @Former-Member Lovely Red Rump Parrots.

We never saw those, when I was growing up in NSW.

We don't have those over here.

I saw Top Knot Pigeons in your picture - I remember those well from NSW. They make an unusual whirring sound, when they fly.

We don't have Top Knots in WA either, except far up north.

I've been largely absent from Forums for the past few days - life or social isolation has been a bit too rough on me.

Re: Everything Birds

Aww @Adge  sorry your not feeling the best. I have noticed your absence and feel a little responsible re upset on other thread. My moods have been all over the place more than usual. We're all feeling a little in the pressure cooker lately I think. So many changes...

Hey, I  didn't realise those were pigeons 😲 all these years I thought they were doves, they coo like doves.   l too  love  the sound of their wings in flight, and the pretty green colours on some of them, maybe the males?  A  homing  flock of  pigeons sometimes lands  here, actually heard them on the roof this morning, they are much heavier and don't coo. I'll try find photo of them. Thanks for being kind to me here Adge, please stick around, I you're one of the few who I think 'gets' me, doesn't judge, and you're smart and kind... Get some sunshine for me up there out west will you 🌄 @@

I get a lot of birds around here too.  Today I saw a large eagle in our back yard, up in one of the big gum trees.  He had lots of little birds pestering him, cheeky things...

Wow, Sherry, can't believe you had an eagle that close, you must be near a mountain, or on be. I can imagine the smaller birds attacking him. They do it to the bigger birds here too, especially the kurrawongs ?spelling. Preditor birds are not kind for the little birds.

Hope you don't mind me tagging you over here, I'm hoping you'll post some photos of your birds here. Adge s a wealth of knowledge about them and use to live in NSW, knows our birds. 🌺

Re: Everything Birds

Hi @Former-Member I think Pigeons & Doves are largely interchangeable names.

I just depends on which book (classifications) you're reading.

The Green winged Homing Pigeon type (in most cities) is the European Rock Dove.

It's feral in Australia - & poops on buildings so much, that it causes $1000's damage (each year).

Not so much a Pressure Cooker for me - feeling cut off from everything (& everyone) that is meaningful to me.

My Yoga classes & MH (fortnightly) Social Lunch - are about the only Social Outlets & Connections with people (face to face) that I have (had).

Both are still closed.

Work contacting many times during my Annual Leave - & the uncertainty of whether there would be Work Shifts to return to, took its toll.

I still have to go into work sometime next week - for my Annual Performance Review. Regardless of only having 2 work shifts (next week), in the entire week.

Thanks for finding me kind, smart, & understanding - I think you are too.

Re: Everything Birds

I dont mind at all that you tagged me here @Former-Member .  I appreciate it. Thank you. No mountains where I live.  In a large valley not too far from the east coast, midnorth coast of NSW.  We have mountains not too far away though. We see eagles here occasionally.  Always in awe of them when I do see them.

Hi @Adge .

Re: Everything Birds

Good Morning @Adge, was thinking if you this morning with a frenzied if birds in my yard in on the roof. There's a lot of birds in the yard today. Think it's the cooler weather. They come out of shelter extra hungry when it's calm out. Today there's doves, kng parrots, red rosella, pigeons, large honey water, baby starling, sparrows, red Rump Parrot, magpies, peewee, to name a few. Love watching them interact. Admittedly I did break up and throw them my old hot-cross-buns from Easter. What a frenzy.
Pretty quiet here otherwise. How ya feeling? Birds break the loneliness 💙💙💙

Re: Everything Birds

Birds like your Hot Cross Buns @Former-Member They must have Good taste....

I don't get a lot of bird activity in my backyard - mainly feral Laughing Turtledoves.

I do get Honeyeaters & Wattlebirds - only because I planted Grevilleas & Hibiscus, 15 years ago.

They love the flowers (& nectar).

My back neighbours had a Raging (Blaring) party with Boom Boom Speakers all last night - just like your neighbours did.

My neighbours were not nice enough to play Disney music....
