Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
Hey @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Oaktree This is the Victoria Lilly.
I have seen it in Botanical Gardens (Greenhouse). No, I don't have one at home.
It's probably too big to grow in a suburban garden pond, anyway.
Yes, the flowers are spectacular.
The reason I'm showing you what it looks like, is it's amazing leaves!
Each leaf is up to 3 metres (300 cm) in Diameter, across.
The leaves are Huge...
Even large Wader Birds can walk across the leaves, & they don't sink into the water - They keep floating on top...

Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
Oh wow - that’s amazing @Adge ! 😀🪷
that’s surely one of the biggest water lillies if not the biggest?
the flower is just beautiful - next to those leaves, it must be quite large in itself, I’m thinking 🙂🌺
I want to share this with you.. it’s from Mayfield Garden in Oberon NSW, I went there one summer a few years ago, and took this pic of the beautiful Lilly pond..I hope you like it 🙂

Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
Hi @Former-Member Thanks for your picture of Water Lillies at Oberon.
That's gorgeous.
I'm not sure that I've ever been to Oberon.
I do remember seeing the Sign Posts to Oberon, near Jenolan Caves.
Jenolan Caves was one of my favourite places, when I grew up & lived in NSW.
My Dad was once a Caves Guide there, either before I was born, or when I was very young.
The Victoria Lilly is apparently the 2nd largest Water Lilly in the World - It's from the Amazon Basin, in South America.
I'm not sure what Water Lilly is the largest....
Yes, the flowers are huge, about the size of a person's head.

Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
I’m glad you liked it @Adge 🙂
it’s a beautiful garden, well worth the visit if you get an opportunity one day🌺
That’s amazing your dad was a caves guide - did you enjoy visiting the caves also?
I used to love visiting as often as I could, frequently going in the Christmas holidays.
The Victoria water Lilly is huge - it’s not surprising it’s number 2 on the enormous Lilly list ☺️
I hope your evening is going well 🌺🙂

Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
@Former-Member@Shaz51 When I was quite young, we used to go to Jenolan Caves several times a year.
The seclusion & the beauty of that whole Valley was what I loved, not just the Caves.
Dad was a Geologist, so he used to love talking about what type of Rocks were there.
Then at some point, decades ago, when it became very Touristy, & extremely busy there - That spoilt it for me.
The Wildlife (including hundreds of parrots) never came around the Caves House anymore, because there were hundreds of people there.
There were about 6 huge tourist Buses, all lined up next to each other.
Oh & the Cave Ticket Prices went up to $40 or $50, just to go in one Cave.
Sadly, that's not affordable for many people (including myself).

Re: Join us on our virtual walk around Australia!
Hey there @Adge 🌺🙂
yes it’s such a beautiful place in its entirety, in addition to the caves.
That sounds very interesting, your dad talking about all the different geology there - he would be a fountain of knowledge!
I haven’t been for many years - it was the extreme tourism and the prices that have kept me away too.
still, such a beautiful place, and when I get the chance I try to drive through, as I love the roads 🙂
I hope you have a nice day, and you got some rest over the Easter weekend 🌺🙂
