Hi @Oaktree @Dimity and all you other inspiring walkers (yes, I still maintain you should feel good to even give 5 to 10 minutes a go).
Anyways, I’ve been doing LOADS of walking leading up to my big trip. Vey happy with how things are going well. The cortisone seems to have finally kicked in and my physio has given me great support. I think I hurt my back a little the weekend just gone but today there’s almost no pain, which is a relief.
Anyway my various walks have been wonderful. I’ve been to stunning parks, taken on the bush hiking and meandered along a lengthy board walk on a river.
Couple of things to note:
People go outdoors for a saunter in the most extraordinary outfits. It’s wonderful to see the huge variety and “innovation”.
As I walked I came across a small group of young children who were obviously in early stages of walking and running. They were all laughing, squealing, shouting and swinging their arms and dropping to the ground just for the fun of it. They made lots of noise and it was wonderful to be briefly near all commotion.
On another walk I came across a group of kangaroos that I’ve encountered many times before. I always get a giggle out of the the way they are grazing and then bolt upright and stare right at you as you walk by. As though I’m a foreign, weird creature. Some hop away but they don’t go very far. And then suddenly they simply go back to grazing. The process always gives me a smile.

My daily walk has morphed from a chore to a habit to a ritual. It's a comfort. Today I took a bag and picked up litter - it helped my mood after a tough few days.

Perseverance is the key @TAB . In the early days I'd tell myself to just put on my shoes and get out the door... I didn't/couldn't think about the walk but once I was outside it was OK, just one foot after the other.
I hear you - It's not so easy with pain. I struggle a bit with my other exercises and don't do them regularly.

Hi guys,
I need to get up off the couch and start walking again! I really have no excuses… the weather is nice. I have One Foot Forward for The Black Dog Institute coming up in October so I have to get moving. First step is to get out the door and start walking and see where that takes me.

Sounds like time to start easing back into it @Oaktree . Start small, just getting out the door counts. Here there's spring blossoms to enjoy.
