All the best @Delicatessen I trust the investigations will be constructive and you can get better before your trip.
I had a long walk today to the nearest Bunnings... worthwhile on several fronts.

Good news. They know what the problem is.
Bad news. It’s arthritis on the base of my spine. Acute flare up. Muscles in back spasming which links to my sciatica.
Promising news. Bed rest is absolutely not recommended. Being mobile is the best way to go. So will definitely be walking this weekend. Trip to doctor tomorrow will determine how far.
Am on codeine four times a day. Next decision is whether to have an “injection”.
Sorry for all the details. Definitely more upbeat knowing walking is still on the cards.

Hi Everyone
Walked for a long time the weekend just gone. Took me by the river for most of it. 8 degrees when I first started! Saw ferries, joggers, dogs, a very reluctant cat, bikes, mangroves, bridges, rainforest, sprawling parks, exercise equipment for the public and parents jogging with prams with VERY rugged up children inside. Had to walk on the road for a short bit which was a bit of a drag. Grabbed some morning tea while crossing a bridge and sat in the middle of a park to enjoy. Felt euphoric at the end of it.
Also did another shorter walk. Got lost in the bush but found my way quite easily. Explored the streets and local parks for a bit. No matter where you are I think it’s often nice to change up your route and check something new.
After it all, when I was feeling a bit sore and sorry, I wondered why I’d done both walks. Firstly of course to do some preparation for my big upcoming walk. But there are some major differences. I opted to go without headphones which normally help to calm the noise in my head somewhat. But…my head felt calm, I hardly talked to myself, I actually felt completely immersed in the experience.
Most importantly, I felt really happy. And it all reinforced to me how good all of this is for my mental health. Again, I think these kinds of benefits might be up for grabs if you even just venture out for 5-15 minutes. Suggestion only.

Hi Everyone
And an a further update to my earlier note. When there’s walking there’s no pain. But when I’m not walking the pain can be extreme. It’s now so bad I’ve started to fear the pain. Took me 5 minutes to find a way to roll over in bed.
But…I got the injection this morning. They say I’ve got to allow 2-3 days for it to take effect. So no improvement. Will keep you posted.

Great job on your walking @Delicatessen
I am glad that you weren’t in pain while you were walking. Your surroundings sounded lovely. I really need to get out in the bush again. No excuses now the snakes are asleep. Hubby will be having his knee surgery on the 4th of July, then after that we can start taking walks together. I am not sure how long it willbe before he is up for walking but I am excited for it!

I hope your injection brings relief soon @Delicatessen . I'm glad for you that walking eases the body and soul.
Tonight as I walked home from the busstop the afternoon light caught a big old lemon scented gum, making the white trunk and branches golden.
@Oaktree hubby might take a while to ease back into walking after his op - but as you say something to look forward to.
