Hi @Shaz51
I take it from all the other responses that 18 is not a good number, what would a "normal" number be ........Asgard

Hello @Asgard 😊
For a diabetic
2 hours after a meal should be in-between level 8 to 10 at night
Fasting in the morning for a diabetic before eating breakfast should be in-between level 6 to 8

@Shaz51 I hope your sugars haven't been high again. I'm borderline prediabetic again (5.6) because of slipping up on diet and exercise.

Thanks @Shaz51
Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I have learned so much from other people on this forum. Half the time I don't have a clue what the various abreviations are, so Mr Google is on permanent consult as regards what they all mean. But finding out from a real person can't be beaten. Can I ask, how would you know if you were pre diabetic, as have become rather unfit and ice cream has turned into a great buddy of mine......Asgard

Hello @Asgard
I don't mean to steal @Shaz51 's thunder but I found out I was prediabetic from routine blood tests ordered by my gp. There are also signs of risk factors - eg waist measurement more than 80cm for females and 100cm for males. Being prediabetic elevates your risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease so knowing about it is helpful.
In Victoria there's a free lifestyle intervention program run by Diabetes Victoria called the Life! Program for people at risk..Their screening questions include BP and BMI.

Morning @Dimity
Thanks for that mate, have just had a raft of blood work done for a new job I am starting, they didn't mention anything they were more concerned if I had mumps, measles, c pox, hepatotis. Wonder if you have to ask them specifically to do a diabetic check. Anyways am a wee bit wiser, so thanks @Dimity ...............Asgard

@Asgard the diabetic test is initially just fasting blood glucose then if that puts you in the range they add another test which is HbA1c which relates to longterm average blood sugars.

thanks @Dimity 😍
yes, just ask for a fasting blood test for diabetes @Asgard
saw the doctor today, and he said to wait and see the diabetes specialist on Monday
the doctor was not too worried about the spike in my blood sugar as it has only gone up in the last two weeks but no good if it keeps continuing
