Re: Diabetes and mental health

Wow @Judi9877 ! Good on you! Thank you for sharing all those tips about diabetes. So true that education is key to managing/preventing diabetes.

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Wonderful advice @Judi9877 xx

Hello @tyme 👋

I had kidney disease and then diabetes and now have other diagnoses

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Hi @Shaz51 -

I've heard that diabetes can be managed (one type... forgot which one). Is your diabetes generally 'under control'?

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Type 2 can be managed @tyme

Yes mine is pretty good,  up sometimes at night but good in the mornings x x

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Hi @Shaz51

I have mental health issues and diabetes type 2. I have experienced a mania now twice so recently diagnosed with bipolar type 1 I think. I would say it has been difficult but I'm slowly recovering. The diabetes is ok mostly controlled about 8 mg/l on average so quite low compared to others I know. But from the medication I seem to get hungry a lot and have bowel issues even though the doctor cannot see an issue there.. so its a mystery. Anyway regular checkups at this time and just had an abdominal ultrasound today so hopefully my pancreas was checked out in all its glory lol.

Hope you are well.

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Many thanks for the tag and these reminders @Shaz51 . I've been backsliding. For the last couple of (stressful) weeks I've rarely had time to walk. I've had to get a lot of takeaways. And having been advised to increase my psych med a few days ago it's been harder to follow my usual diet plan as I'm feeling hungry.

I'll try to get back on track.

Hope you're doing OK @Shaz51 @pinklollipop15 @Judi9877 @SmilingGecko and all reading.

Re: Diabetes and mental health

@Dimity , my numbers are high at night time but they are ok in the morning

i find it hard when we have 2 jobs in the mornings and mr shaz says we will buy something on our way to the second job and it is usually takeaways from the servo

Re: Diabetes and mental health

Thanks for this @Shaz51 I'm in control of my diabetes to a certain degree but have to walk and do resistance bands morning and night to keep them in a good range. My diabetes educator still wants the numbers down. I'm not working so its easier to get a handle on regular eating and not eat the wrong things in a hurry. I understand what it must be like being rushed off your feet and having no time to cook. Having no money to spend on takeaway like I do is a good incentive. I have to get my teeth checked again soon and have an appointment with my podiatrist in another few weeks. Really should get to the optometrist but have been putting it off.  Lets all keep eachother accountable for good habits @Dimity You will get back on your horse again, its easy to verge off the path with stressors. I've had stuff go wrong myself. Have you thought of taking along a tinned tuna salad for lunch Shaz or planning meals on the weekend for a big cookup so youre not stressed over takeaways?
