Re: Daily Achievements!

@Historylover  i have been in SA since march. Just old and soft re working in sun

Re: Daily Achievements!

Your move escaped me, @TAB. Why the change of state? You were in WA weren't you?

Re: Daily Achievements!

You're doing well with your routine, @SmilingGecko. I have no plans for today beside car/driving videos. I did bake yesterday though. I wish I enjoyed baking, as fresh is so much nicer than bought. Perhaps a walk will be on the cards. Looks like a strange day tomorrow, weatherwise.

Re: Daily Achievements!

yes. was barely working during covid by choice. Sat at home in rental house in kalgoorlie buying stuff on covid dole

they went back to work, hurt knee badly  ie dr said its old age, but only hurt it at  work anywhere else was fine lol.

Anyway, father died was like 97 , so on one left to avoid re parents plus wasnt working. then landlord sold house . had to get rid of heaps of stuff , moved to caravan pk in perth waiting for inheritance. got it , figured may as well go back to SA as cheaper, could afford something closer to city etc.  and 2 siblings here and other one seems to be on east coast all the time , so 3 days drive closer to go see anyone.

However, have found hosp facilities here very basic/still have health issues, am bit further north than realised re climate, one sibling not talking to me anyway etc etc

it will be okay. house has survived storms, neighbours keep to themselves , suits me fine. locals at shops bit sacharine-christian or something but bearable. 17,000 pop cityhad considered going to 20 mins drive from here. can commute if get back to work. one friend, ex from 20 years ago has visited a few times. no siblings shown slightest interest in coming here etc. bla bla. so spent heaps on getting rid of huge old trees, ceiling  fans, insulation, had to get mower, tools  etc al whitegoods again

still have some money from inheritance left, but nothing that I have earned.

So that was the plan, had a budget, wanted $  to set up and some to spare etc . done..😎

Re: Daily Achievements!

Thats good you invested in car driving videos @Historylover I mentioned to @TAB that I watched a RACV dvd years ago on car maintenance which got me through all kinds of unexpected situations. That was very educational. Don't know if they do it now. If more people knew about it the better I thought. It taught me more than what I allready knew. Might be on the RACV website or you tube channel now quite possibly.

Re: Daily Achievements!

can do 'L's online for brush up on road rules eg @Historylover  probs get new street directory as so many things changed last however many years, used to be the same forever.

Re: Daily Achievements!

Thank you for that, @SmilingGecko. I've also looked up how to change a tyre although I'll have roadside assistance, but everything else is important too. I'll look into it. We women can't know too much.

Re: Daily Achievements!

@Historylover Yes this RACV dvd was hosted by a psych rehab service that had a session with all the members on how to maintain their car to budget.

One tyre on my car was slashed years ago when it was parked in the city and I knew how to change a tyre myself based on that dvd screening. So I was prepared. I was young back then and knew how to use a car jack - where to place it under the vehicle and how to remove the tyre.

I think so many people are skimping on car maintenance with inflation nowadays but you will definitely get the most out of your vehicle and know how to pump up your tyres properly to get fuel economy etc. It goes into extensive detail beyond anything that is standard knowledge. I think its a wise choice. Let me know how you go with it. You will be in control of your vehicle and your budget.

Re: Daily Achievements!

I found an RAC video for the basics—oil change when necessary, prolonging battery life by minimising short trips only... I was hoping for more but perhaps that is the basics, @SmilingGecko. One week down, five to go. I will be well-informed re driving, road rules and maintenance when it arrives. I'm hoping to be a more confident driver. I'm having an awful job trying to understand how to connect to Google Maps with Voice. Unless instructions are for exactly my phones icons, I'm bewildered. Perhaps I'll just have to go back to a directory. The problems I encounter living solo!!

Re: Daily Achievements!

Yes that is the absolute basics @Historylover  Going by memory the dvd I saw was quite extensive but it was years ago. Maybe ask before you buy if you want to look into that some more. I'm the same with technology. I wouldn't know how to do GPS lol! They still sell Melways. Its a good option if the grid goes down as we are too reliant on tech. I have a recent Melways for that very reason!
