Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Hello coin lovers, we have some new releases coming up in April. Here are the details:

2026_Dawn-Service_Blog-Banner_Linelisting_Op1.jpg

Each year on 25 April, Australians across the country gather in the quiet stillness before sunrise for an enduring Anzac Day tradition: the dawn service. These solemn ceremonies invite us to reflect upon the many courageous and dedicated Australians who have served their country – from the Anzacs who landed at Gallipoli in 1915, through to service personnel in the present day.

The Royal Australian Mint presents these $2 coloured coins as a homage to the dawn service, and to the Anzac spirit that lives ever on. Lest we forget.

The Design

The dawn service has long been synonymous with Anzac Day. Held across the country and attended by Australians from all walks of life, the services typically begin in near darkness, evoking the conditions of the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. In the design we see light break over the horizon, as Australians stand together in silence, reflecting upon the sacrifices made by those who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Poppies decorate the field, while a lone soldier stands on the headland, head bowed, facing the sun.

2026_Battle-of-Kapyong_Blog-Banner_Linelisting_Op1.jpg

The Royal Australian Mint presents this 50c uncirculated coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong (22-27 April 1951). The battle was a significant chapter of Australia’s involvement in the Korean War (1950-1953), the so-called ‘forgotten war’.

The Design

The floral pattern is inspired by traditional Korean lattice frames. It includes wattle and 32 poppies to commemorate each of the 32 Australian soldiers who lost their lives in the battle. Coordinates of the battle location are included, and we see Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) soldiers positioned on hill 504.

The Battle

In the Battle of Kapyong (22-27 April 1951), a small Commonwealth and US force defended the Kapyong Valley against a major Chinese offensive aimed at capturing Seoul. The 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) and 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (2PPCLI) fought off repeated attacks, supported by New Zealand artillery, US tanks and mortars and a British infantry battalion. The gallant defence by 3RAR, in which 32 Australians were killed, allowed UN forces to regroup and force the Chinese to withdraw. This significant victory led to 3RAR, the Canadians and the US tank unit being awarded the US Presidential Unit Citation.

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

@Mustang67 lol I got the invoice and it says $98. I wasn't expecting that! Still, I have it now and it will add to my collection.

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Nice @Mustang67 !

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

@ENKELI Yes they like to add on their buyer's premium. Some auction houses add on an additional 22% to the winning price. It's all these little things you work out along the way.
