Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
Hi @Shaz51 et al
Good question re food. I had gut problems for years which compounded mood problems. I avoid processed food, have very little red meat, but have chicken or fish occasionally. Lots of vegetables. Olive oil, most days. Yoghurt, legumes regularly. I have to watch my wheat/gluten intake and avoid other than rye or multi grain bread. Wheat based cereal is very hard to take and upsets me. Barley and oatmeal are good. I probably have a bit too much cheese and hot chocolate as comfort foods when low.
Cheers
Dimity

@Shaz51 I forgot to mention tofu. Firm tofu fried or steamed is a go-to and very versatile.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
Hey @Shaz51
I've just recently cleaned up my diet a lot (5 weeks in). I used to be a huge junk food comfort eater and also struggled with BED.
I can tell you cutting out sugar and wheat has been massive for me. It's essentially dropped my mood swings by half, and had a marked improvement on side effects from the meds I'm on. I used to have zombie brain constantly throughout the day and had a lot of trouble waking up and getting to sleep. Since I've cut out sugar, I feel zombie brain for maybe 20-30 mins on waking and then I'm good to go. I'm also sleeping a lot better. Even my tdoc had seen a remarkable improvement in me. The other bonus is I'm losing weight. I won't lie it's really tough to stick with some days but the benefits for me have far outweighed the pleasure of drowning myself in chocolate every night.
Re your other question. I struggle with emotions. 7 moods a minute, even with my meds I still rapid cycle. And my emotions are very reactive to negative circumstances. The only thing I've found that helps to regulate them for me besides the meds, is daily exercise and writing. Daily exercise is the most underrated form of therapy in my opinion. And writing has become my go to form of self healing.
Enjoy your coffee, I'll take a decaf 🙂

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
Mr S eats way too much sugar. I notice him get more down if he doesn't eat well.
He will also deliberately play music that he knows will make him cry because it takes him back to past events. He marks the anniversaries of previous bad things happening this way and uses particular music to help him relive them.
However, he is usually in an angry mixed state.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
@TideisTurning Is anyone else experiencing problems trying to view the main SANE website? For a few days now my browser keeps timing out. I'm using Safari on my iPhone XS. I've tried using Firefox but still no luck. Not sure what's going on.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
Hey @bipolarbunny - not sure what might be going on there, I'm able to access the site on my mobile... Some ideas might be to do a hard-refresh of your browser (see here for details) or clear the cache and histroy, it might be trying to load an older version of the site.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar
@Shaz51 @Jynx Yeah not sure what's going on. I've cleared the cache & history and done a full restart on my phone, but it's still not loading. It just hangs and then comes back server not responding. I don't have any issues with any other sites, and can access the forum pages no problem so it's got me baffled. I want to try an access the events for World Bipolar Day so it's a bit frustrating. Even clicking the links via Instagram doesn't work. I'm outta ideas.
