hi @outlander and @Shaz51
of course i dont mind talking about it luv.
it was a bit different to what i expected. was a bit confrontational - there was the psychiatrist, another psych working under her, the medical doctor, social worker, carer liaison officer and me. bit overwhelming.
we're basically still at the same stage, ie they havent confirmed dementia as it could still be delirium from the UTI she had. but the psych said she doesnt believe mum's behaviours are as a result of a mood disorder. i told them how i felt and that i was concerned if mum came home as she was that i wouldnt be able to continue caring for her, as it would be too much stress on me. im still in limbo basically! i spoke to mum on the phone today and she was in a good mood (i always love those days! hehe). will go and visit her tomorrow which will be nice. i just hope she has another good day tomorrow! one day at a time ... i just really appreciate the good days she has as it feels as though i have my mum back 🙂
*big hugs* @Shaz51 - are you in a lot of pain?? 😞

@Bella1978
Im so frustrated for you. They cant keep blaming the uti for everything. They really need to actually sit and perform those tests psych and physical so they can rule things out properly.
How frustrating for you.
Lets hope theres more of those good days hey. And they get something sorted for both her and you. Your just as important.
Hugs ❤

The meeting actually sounds positive to me @Bella1978. U understand it would have been daunting having so many professionals in the one room.
But what her psych said was that she doesn't believe it is a mood disorder. That's good. That means that it really could be from the UTI. And that delerium takes different times to recover from. No one reacts the same. But if it is the UTI, then she will get better.
If it's Vascular Dementia, it sounds like it would be in the very very early stages. And often they can reduce the symptoms with an Alzeimers Medication. Also reducing her risks, walking, swimming, lowering bp, weight. All of those sorts of things. I just read that sometimes the first time it's noticed - can often be very full on - but that congnitive reasoning etc, can start to repair itself. So she may end up, not as affected as she is now.
Very strange how our brains work. And even more amazing how we can heal our brains. Reprogram our brains. A great book to read is called Brain Plasticity or Plasticity of the Brain. Can't exactly remember. lol.
And my experience with my stroke was that my memory was super super bad after it, but even though I have a dead spot in my brain, My brain just rewired its circuits and took another route, and my memory improved (exceptng this current depressive episode).
So if you can, try not to focus on the worst case scenarios. Research if you need to. Just be sure to research the positive outcomes that are now being achieved, instead of the old 'doom and gloom' that newspapers like to report.
Did you enjoy your day today? We had sun here - amazing how much that helps life my mood and how much warmer I feel when the suns out - even if the temperature is the same as when it's cloudy. Again, our brains work in mysterious ways. lol

Hi sweetheart. I'm ok about it as i would prefer them to rule out everything before saying it is dementia. Just dont like the uncertainty, not knowing but i need to be patient.

Yeah, im battling on! Today has been ok. Still in limbo with mum as they dont have a definite diagnisis, they are going to do cognitive function tests. It's a slow process but i woukd prefer them to do everything they can to determine what is going on, ie whether it actually dementia. Yep, I am doing my best just taking it one day at a time. Thanks for checking in. How are you??

Im glad your ok with it @Bella1978
I know it wouldbt be ideal to have dimentia diagnosis but must still be frustrating feeling like your going in circles with this.
How are you going? Do you still have your supports? Your thread on the carers side seemed to have quite abit of info too but havent been back to fully read it all.
What are your plans for today? Will you be ringing up to see how your mum is before heading in there or a day off today?

I have found that having a craft will help you. Find something you love and do it as a thing to distract you when the darkness comes. I have schizoaffective disorder and my partner has schizoaffective as well as possible BPD. When the darkness comes for us only my craft helps me out. Craft can be anything. It can be pottery or woodworking or painting or photography. I am a Poet and my craft is with words. I love writing poetry because it doesn't require any special tools. I can do it on a scrap paper with a crayon or my laptop with Word 365 and everything in between. Whatever your craft, do it more. Enjoy your life more and by doing so hold a lantern to the darkness that comes with our illness closes in.
