Oh, the Bread machine can also cook up Jam @Former-Member

I didn't know those machines were "Multi-Purpose".

How useful....

Re: Self care by growing a garden

A lot of bread machines have a jam setting, it is handy for small batches only. Today I used 3 cups of chopped up strawberries, some sugar and some lemon juice and it made 3 small jars of jam.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Awww, that needs a Heart @Former-Member. Smiley Very Happy

Still trying to get all those wonderful summer veggie seedlings I've grown planted out. Life means I've run somewhat overtime, but they've gone a bit leggy for giving away... so I'll keep putting in as many as I can, and see what happens.

Today I planted a sweet potato plant, and six Cape Gooseberries. Have also recently planted two cucumber plants and two climbing zucchinis (Trombincino variety), and last night a mix of herbs and flowery things went into the bed along the fence where the ash tree was removed. Next job is probably extend that bed a bit further and put in more tomatoes.

Also... bought a straw bale yesterday. Wouldn't fit in the boot, so it came home on the back seat of the car. 😛 It's between the cucumbers and sweet potato, getting a good soaking each time I water them to start it breaking down. I need to make some hollows in the top and add some bunny poo to speed up the process. In the meantime, the local rodents are having a looovely time foraging out the bits of grain in the bale... grrr!

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Two capsicums and two okra in the ground. I gotta get these in, so I skipped adding manure and just dug a hole. I'll go around and put a good scoop of manure around each plant later.

I haven't grown okra before, so I'm interested to see what it's like. 🙂

Oooh, and I harvested my first new potatoes too! "Bandicooted" them.
(Bandicooting = wriggle your hand into the soil underneath the plants and pull out a few decent sized spuds while leaving the rest to keep growing.)

Mum has some gnomes

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Gnomes are banned from our garden @Shaz51

Re: Self care by growing a garden

@Former-Member @Shaz51, my Grandma used to have heaps of concrete statues in her garden. Don't recall any gnomes- but there were lots of different animal ones, and some giant mushrooms. (Not giant-giant- about one foot high). A couple of my favourites were the mum and baby kangaroos. Was thinking about that tonight when I spotted one of our local wallabies in the yard... Grandma's did less damage to her fruit trees. 😛 My only sculptures are a couple that I made during my ceramics course.

Got a patch dug over for more planting today, will put in compost etc. and plants tomorrow. Oooh, it's crummy soil. Smiley Frustrated It'll need the extra nutrients big time!
