Re: Self care by growing a garden

@Bobkat

Would love to hear of your gardening adventures.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

My Dripper Retic needs yet more fixing.

Otherwise I will not get back into the habit of using it (which was it's purpose of course).

I've lost so many plants, due to lack of watering (heat) - those still out there are not looking too healthy....

Tradesmen, garden guys & tree loppers slashed (with petrol whipper snippers & chainsaws etc) so many holes in it.

I fixed some, then there were more - I discovered more holes, then people slashed more holes.

So I haven't been able to consistently use it (yet).

Because the pressure drops too low (with several leaks) - the water doesn't get out to each dripper (or plant) that it needs to.

My Dripper Retic (polypipe) system is very Sentimental - it was my 40th Birthday present from my Dad (now gone), & my ex-wife.

That was 11 years ago....

So it was heartbreaking when my neighbour cut a hole in my Retic pipe (with his shovel) - after I had already told him that it was sentimental.

I asked him to be careful, then he said he didn't care...

@Adge

Working dripper system = desirable.

Maintenance = ongoing.

Lack of care = frustrating

We thought we would put a system in on Christmas Eve when we  planted out some potted plants. We now a half done job as the drippers we had been given were actually sprayers and system too small for the water pressure and a few of them blew off when we turned the tap on.  Local hardware shop was out of drippers. Plan on heading to regional centre next week so hopefully will be able to get the bits we need.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

I hope you can get those Drippers (instead of sprayers) @Former-Member & can soon have your new Retic system "fully operational".

Then less hand-watering, & more happy healthy plants.

My Retic is very extensive, & covers the entire Block (693m square) - so it cannot run Sprayers, because the water pressure drops too low (over the distance).

Drippers work fine.

Which is why I cannot either replace it myself (not up to that job) - or afford to pay someone to put a new Retic system in.

I know what Retic people charge for installing a system like mine - $1000's (even for Poly-pipe).

So it's important that I get it up & running again (& fix holes & missing drippers) - fixing small bits I can manage.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Slow but steady progress here with a bit more weeding and tidying up done.

Mr Darcy has again filled out green bin as well as our neighbours bin.

Council has been contacted in relation to seeing if they are amenable to removing/ grinding the tree stumps on our verge.

Yikes @Shaz51 is Mum's place affected too?

@Scoo we have a gardening discussion thread if you are interested.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Managed to get the drippers we needed for our front yard @Adge  and they are now in situ. We have also tweaked our garden bed set up as one pathway not wide enough for the mower.

Any colour (apart from green)  on your tomatoes as yet @Smc?

Re: Self care by growing a garden

have to boil our water at the moment @Former-Member

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Why do you need to boil your water @Shaz51 ?

I guess, given our severe water restrictions here ... you actually have water.
