Hi Eden @Eden1919
Yes, clinicians can be just as captured by stigma as the rest of the community. Stereotypes are lame justifications to negate what we can achieve. It our job to defy them. And with support and care we can.

@Sandy1 yes I am currently trying to complete a university degree and while it is a slow progress i am still trying this psychiatrist and another one bascially told me i was making it all up for attention. it would be much easier to be making it up because then i could tell the shadow people to leave and they actually would.

@Eden1919Hi Eden1919 interesting you said about uni as I have a degree which I completed whilst I was in my 18 months of mania but now do not have the brains to do another degree. It is like my illness has made my brain into mush so to speak.

Hi @Lilaca, thank you for sharing. It sounds like you've been through a lot and there's been some progress, though there is a way to go also. I hope there are some answers soon and you're able to get something valuable from this discussion this evening.

Well @Eden1919, why would someone want to make up something so distressing. Finding the right person to work with on your mental health is key to overcoming stuff. But caring for yourself is key to holding onto friends who can help you as well. There are many clinicians all with their own take on things. And some are toxic, others are healers. How to find the right one?

My son was diagnosed almost 4 yrs ago with Schizophrenia after a first presentation of psychosis etc. He has continued to take medication and has not had a relapse. He is back working and living independently, still maintains a sense of humour and engaging in quality conversation. The struggle with social anxiety, connecting with people and at times other motivation is obvious, however I wonder at times whether, as with many diagnoses, whether the diagnosis should be reviewed???

Hi @greenpea,
Thankyou for post and attendance tonight
In my experience, it's uncommon. People that I often see have a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder or bipolar I. One Door have some resources on our website that may be helpful. The link is here: https://www.onedoor.org.au/advocacy/about-mental-illness
