Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

She has taken a voice recorder to bed and recorded hours and hours of the "whispers". Made an Excel spreadsheet documenting what was said at what time. So she hears the voices on the recording. But nobody else can.

She believes there is nothing wrong with her, and it is me that needs treatment. And yet she has booked herself in to see a psychiatrist. And then refused to take the medication prescribed because "There is nothing wrong with me"

Hi @Tyler77

What you have mentioned - about hearing voices right before you go to sleep is a very common occurance. This does not mean you have a mental illness, a lot of people out there in the community hear voices and dont have a diagnosis.

Remember if you are worried you can always go to your GP and have a chat!

Thanks

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

My 'internal dialogue' gets pretty loud & condemning at times but i think its 'blackdog' from what i've read. I told my closest friend about blackdog once but found since she throws it in my face if she doesn't agree with something i say, she disregards it saying "thats ya blackdog talking" so i don't tell her anymore.

What is the difference between the negative stran of blackdog thoughts & hearing voices in ya head?

Hi @Former-Member

Sounds ike you have had a lot on your plate over the years!

While it is really common for people to hear voices and they dont have a diagnosis of mental illness, its always important to remember that if something is going on and its impacting the way a person thinks, feels and acts, its a good idea to go and talk to your GP.

That being said, people have been hearing voices of loved one, the voice of God and their own voices in their heads for many centuries. Sometimes it is your minds way of bringing you peace.

I hope this helps!

@leitor

Thanks for your post.

I think anyone would feel terrified if they heard those types of voices.

Has your wife gone to speak to a GP about whats going on for her?

It may be a good idea. Remember just because someone hears voices, it does not necessarily mean they have a mental illness. Just assure your wife you want to help, and have a chat about talking to a professional.

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

@Former-Member that must be so hard, not being able to share with anyone. There is still so much stigma and misunderstanding about hearing voices and mental illness. Hopefully the more we talk about it, the easy it will be for people to ask for help, and talk to their family and friends.

Have you thought about going to a hearing voices group?

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

My brothers get so passionate (verbally aggressive), how do i talk to them? Its too draining to go along with their world of nonsense (hope that didn't offend here)

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

@Former-Member She's been to the GP, local triage unit and a couple of psychiatrists. After being prescribed anti-psychotics she has run away overseas both times, last time 3 weeks ago.

Hi @akewoooo

It is facinating!

There is a great book called "Living with Voices" By Professor Marius Romme. Check it out!!!

Haven't heard of a hearing voices group
Frightened of being labeled schizo & put on a treatment order (chemically lobotamised)
