Re: Access to Better Mental Health Services

@NatureLover

As requested I have removed your name from my @ list of friends

You said:

It disturbs me that you are busy tearing down hope for people who may benefit from meds or therapy.

I find that claim very upsetting. I don't believe that I have ever said or done anything that could reasonably be construed in that way.

What I have said on a number of occasions both on this forum and publicly is:
I am are not anti-psychiatry, anti-psychology, anti-medication, anti-government or a mental illness denier.

I am opposed to involuntary treatment, involuntary confinement, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment including punishment or torture in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

I might add here that the issue of involuntary confinement is a complex one because no orderly society can allow someone to just run amok doing whatever they want to do.

I appreciate that people on this forum are typically at different stages of their mental health journey and that even the idea of any sort of change can be very distressing for some.

I am sorry that my own mental health journey, which at the moment is very oriented around reform of a system that has seriously damaged my life and the lives of hundreds of thousands of other Australians, is in conflict with yours.

I also see a very real problem with the structure of this forum and its one-size-fits-all configuration. That is also something I have been endeavoring to reform for some months now. I was pleased to hear that the SANE management will soon carry out a review of the existing system. I will be making more posts on this subject in the very near future.

Regards
Willy
