Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

You can take as much time as you need @tyme

I dont have to get this in till the 1st November. I don’t have to submit my resume with this application

Thanks a lot for your help

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

My pleasure @Oaktree !

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

@tyme @Oaktree

I got an email about my enrolment this morning.  I had to dig up my certificates to send them copies.  I found one Cert IV and a copy of the results notification letters for my advanced diplomas.  They seemed happy with that.  Because it's heavily subsidised by the state govt, they require me have a LLN test and short interview.  Luckily they have a time 1 hour after my first adoptees support group (also in the city) next Tuesday so i've booked for that... Actually I initially didn't read the choices closely enough and booked a time for a different course!  A flying start in proving my reading skills! 😁  They saw the funny side so that was good.

That’s amazing. I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you. You should be fine. Have @tyme send you an email of support that you can show them at the interview. I have a beaut one that says I have handled conflict resolution well. Don’t know if I will use it but I have it up my sleeve. Seriously good luck my friend. You deserve good things!

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

Thanks @Oaktree.  I'm not that cornered with the test, these LLN tests are usually pretty simple.  At least that's what I remember.  I was a bit sharper of mind back then. 😁

The letter is a good idea.  I don't really know what this interview is about, but it's best to be prepared for anything.  Now we just need to get you into your Cert IV as well.  Thanks again for your support.  Looking forward to studying with you next year.  I sincerely hope you are successful with you scholarship.  I would be such a huge pity if you missed out!  Fingers and toes still crossed for you.

I am not in camp committed yet. I am concerned about my husband’s feelings. He is supportive of what I end up doing but he is scared that study will cause me to crash and burn. It has happened before. I feel like I am in a good place to study now. I have been well since November 2021. I am well medicated and I love to study. This is something that will help me to give back to the Sane community. Maybe Sane will employ me here as a volunteer peer worker. I am not looking for a paid position as I am on an Army pension

Re: So you want to be a Peer Support Worker?

@OaktreeI had my quarterly check up with my GP today and I told him about my study for next year.  Similar to your husband, he was concerned it would be too much for me, talking about people with depression and anxiety issues. and I would end up crashing back down.  I told him about how interaction here and other support groups has helped me a lot and he agreed that I do seem to be a person that wants to help people, so he agreed it was a good idea, but warned me to be careful.

Whether you end up studying or not next year, it would still be great to have people here to bound ideas and thoughts off of.  And you may get a bit from it as well , by thinking about some of the stuff in the course.  It's up to you of course should that situation arise, but know I'm happy to pick your brain during my study if you're happy to let me.  And anyone else here of course.  I'd be foolish not to use the experience and knowledge here as a resource.

To be perfectly honest, I really haven't thought much about what I'll do with my qualification yet.  I'm only just beginning to look to a future past each 3 monthly blood test, so looking past a year of study next year feels a bit too far ahead to let myself think about right now, but even if it only acts to help my posts to people here, i'll be happy having done the course.

I'm not really looking for a paid position either at the moment as i'm on a pension as well but I do have a big life decision coming up which could mean losing any govt benefit income so I may need some paid work.

@OaktreeYou're on.  Thank you for saying that.  I feel like I'm representing the SANE family with this course.
