Hi, I have just joined. I hope all went okay. It's very daunting at the start, but if you find a good psychiatrist/centre it can make all the difference. I've been in a few 'hospitals'. One was a mental health ward in a public hospital in a regional city in Queensland. I would recommend never, ever, ever, going into one of these. I came out far more scarred then I went in. Maybe things have changed over the past 20 years.

Fair enough @bertie1 regarding your experiences. I can't say I've been in a rural mental health service, but I have been in metro public mental health and it's been soooo helpful.
I guess it also depends on what you are going in for, the circumstances around the admission, how long you stay etc. So many factors to consider.
Hope you have found more helpful supports over the 20 years.
Cheers, tyme
