Hi , for the last 5 years I have suffered from severe constipation, so much so that I have had to undergo several fecal impaction surgery procedures, I have no support from family or friends and suffer in silence.
At first I just thought I had really bad constipation, I pushed so hard trying that I quickly developed several large external hemrhoids, along with significant damage to my sphincter. This alone was enough to desemate both my personal and professional life. My mates at work make fun of me asking if I'm wearing a nappy, it's humiliating. Is there any support out there I need some help, my mental health is taking a hit.

Is it caused by your medication, @Big_Adam?

@Big_Adam You may need to follow a FODMAP diet. I am looking into this myself. FODMAP diets help with constipation, diarrhoea and IBS. I read about a lady online who had constipation for 10 years and saw lots of doctors and specialists getting all kinds of advice but got absolutely nowhere. They could not do anything for her. Things began to shift once she followed FODMAP.
You may need a dietician who knows something about FODMAP to get started. She can guide you on the process so it takes the guesswork out of doing it yourself. Dieticians do this. Monash University have a FODMAP page with information and advice on why people get constipated and how FODMAP can work. Do you have a dietician at your GP clinic?
Currently do you do standard practice such as have fibre such as Psyllium with every meal, carbohydrates in your diet, plenty of water and exercise? I know this is info you may allready know
I have diabetes now and its accompanied by constipation. I've spoken to the diabetes educator recently and all she could do was offer C***/Se**, suppositories, an enema called "Fleet" that you buy from the chemist. She also recommended a "step" which I bought from Bunnings for $10 which lifts the legs so it opens your elimination muscles.
Last night I used magnesium oil on my stomach and got an easy bowel movement this morning thank goodness!!! I read an online medical article that magnesium can promote bowel movements in cases of constipation.
I use a magesium oil which you apply to the skin which allows a higher uptake of magnesium compared to tablets alone. You can't overdo magnesium. The body only absorbs what it needs through the skin so don't panic you can't over do it. Just several sprays in your hand and then apply to your skin. I did my stomach. I have used magnesium oil for years but stopped using it. It says on medical articles online that magnesium may work in cases of constipation. My eliminations were great this morning after weeks of constipation. Adam maybe go to the healthfood shop and buy some magnesium oil. It may be a longshot but I was relieved this morning after not having a distressing moment in the bathroom. Its been this way for weeks. Another supp I'm back on is called Cellfood and have read accounts of one lady living with constipation all her life being relived with Cellfood. Do you also take a probiotic? Read online how probiotics can assist with constipation.
I'm so sorry you are going through all this and how cruel your workmates are. I send you compassion and understanding. If you can't get out to the healthfood store today you could try Amazon. I'm in Melbourne and they deliver either next day or within a few days according to what they say about how long their delivery schedule is going to take. But usually its same day or next day delivery. Please read the delivery dates carefully.
Good luck! I hope you will be allright. Its terrible being alone and not having anyone who cares. I hope this info is of benefit to you!

Hi @Big_Adam ,
It sounds like you have been around in hope of finding supports for yourself.
I'm sorry to hear that people at work make it out like a joke. It must be so upsetting to know that people don't understand the severity of the issue.
Is there anything else your treating team suggest for you to do?
Also, is you think it helpful, we do have a wonderful counselling line you may be interested in using on 1800 187 263 (M-F 10am-10pm AEST).
Please take care and we are so glad you have reached out on the forums.
