Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?
hello @outlander @Former-Member
How lovely outlander.
I know that you have struggled yourself and being there for someone else takes strength but is so rewarding for both parties.
Nooks really needs support at the moment and you are putting aside your own issues and being there for her. A very unselfish act of compassion.
Lovely to read that you have both made a connection xxx
ps Nooks if today doesnt quite meet your expectations, know that it can take time to build a rapport with someone. Hopefully you felt safe and want to follow up.

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?
hi @outlander, @Former-Member and @Former-Member
nooks, I wish you the best for your first appointment. I remember being very nervous the first time i visited a psych.
The issue re expectations is a huge one, and so too is the rapport, mentioned by @mohill.
Re expectations, feel free to let the psych know exactly what your expectations are in the first appointment. This should make clear boundaries, put each other on the same page and in a shared direction, and assist in building rapport and trust 🙂 essential for a good a therapuetic relationship
...expect what you want to expect, and let the psych know what you want out of your visits, try not to expect what you think they expect from you (if that makes sense lol) 😉
...but I guess you can expect a warm, sincere, caring, empathetic, and helpful atmosphere...I say thats not too much to ask for 😉
