Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

@Shaz51 how nice! My mum is in love with Martin Shaw, he's in that show isn't he? I haven't seen it myself but I have seen a bit of his other show where he's a Judge? Struggling to remember right now what it's called!!  My night is good Smiley Happy The forums are so busy this evening! It was (unusually!) very quiet last night.

@TAB yes, I totally agree with you there. Letting other things go and focusing on the positive and happy times can be challenging but it is a good habit to get into I think. Oh gosh! Scrooge McDuck! Smiley LOL blast from the past!

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Thanks @Former-Member

I have lived a pretty fantastic life - it has not been easy - but worth the effort - as they say  definitely worth having the time of my life though

The Big Dipper used to be my favourite thing - the last time we went to Luna Park was such a long time ago now - I got on the Big Dipper and used up all my tickets there -

The next day I started a new job and as I am an accountant at least I could sit down all day - ah - ahahah - getting up was a different exercise

I remember the moon-landing - it was a bleak and cold day in Melbourne but they don't have weather on the moon unless you count asteroids and meteors - and I would rather have rain - and I was able to have the day off work - but for all the watching it took so long for the man to walk on the moon I might as well have stayed at work - I remember gumball machines and the penny we could use over and over again in the Museum - we still have trams in Melbourne and of course - the Beatles - but I didn't see them -

But when I ran off this list of memories - there were so many more - I drove into a blizzard in Tasmania once - that was memorial - and I have flown across Bass Strait a few times in small planes - just for the hell of it - and my Dad was decorated by the Queen and so I was in the same room at the time as the Queen was handing out medals -

Yes - I think I have had an interesting life and today - it's pouring with rain - I am going to get plans for an ark if this lasts much longer

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

I know the feeling @Decadian about the rain, laughed about plans for the ark. We had beautiful sunshine today although it was windy. I'm sure it's coming your way soon. Hoping the west don't send us anymore rain during the day for a while too. Your lists of comments made me think about what my memories are. It turns out your memory is much better than mine. I have a few like the Berlin Wall and the break up of USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. I guess I can name many religious or territory wars. Hard to find the great things though. Anyway I digress and ramble. Thanks for the great distraction from usual thoughts😊💜

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Wow, you girls have some stories 🙂

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Ah @Former-Member

I am a story teller - I can tell the absolute truth about my life with spin - but when I am really telling a story - I mean fiction - I can hold people's attention for as long as it takes

In fact - I have realised that one reason I have coped with my life as well as I have is because I have a memory many would envy and I find most things really interesting - I could tell on and on -

And if I distract people from whatever is distractable in their lives - then that is good - I am pleased - this thread is not for serious comments though I do take them seriously if they are - um -

Then there is all that I delete -

Thanks - I hope I made your day a little easier - that would be good

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Hi @Decadian. I love your reminiscences! Seriously - I would totally buy your book. 😄

We had the day off for the moon landing up here in Brisbane too. I was in primary school, so that was really a big deal. I clearly remember my mum trying to motivate me to stay by the tv during the telecast, but it was so drawn out that all I wanted to do was head off to the back yard and play. I didn't find a free gumball machine, but there was a coin operated elephant ride at the fruit shop that my little hand could retrieve the coin from.

Crossing Bass Strait in small aircraft?? Wow! That's some adventure! You obviously have nerves of steel. All those big dippers rides were probably great training. Did you fly the planes or were you a passenger? Nothing would surprise me.

Hanging with QE II sounds amazing too. I played in a military band for Prince Phillip on a Gold Coast beach, back in the early 80's, and he walked around and talked to us in the sand. 🙂

Hey, it's actually quite therapeutic cataloging all these interesting experiences. Do you find that too?

Have a lovely night!
