Re: Tabaluga's

yeah @TAB my grandfather owned 5 farms, he gave one to each of his sons, they where all small holdings, but to make any money you need to go big these days, which is a worry they are starting to become commercialized and the stock are suffering for it. so many farms around central west NSW are doing huge land clearings and planting crops that use a lot of water because they can make millions off one crop. it is just destroying the land.

Re: Tabaluga's

yeah should not have split it up @Jacques guy my father worked for  was down to 2 farms and renting them back from rich aunts . with inflation and prices etc he bought back other 5-7 farms his father and grandfather had sold off

he went from mixed farming to pure cropping and direct drilling  so no fences no waterpipes no  troughs  no shearing etc etc

rough calc says he (and sons ) would pull in $3-4million a year between the 3 of them .

and thats not good land or rainfall like nsw landprob costs 5x what these people paid. my father used to talk about $200/acre in Narrabri early 70s its black soil , sand here in comparison. plus under half the rain.

Re: Tabaluga's

My grandfather in Germany had a butchers and bakery , also a small farm. only saw pics within last 20 years , family graveyard on property, waterfalls etc huge house ok downstairs was for animals in winter , but yeah, could be 1/4 acre just the house plus was 2 storey.

Anyway they lost it all after the war. thats life.  @Jacques

Re: Tabaluga's

yeah @TAB best soil out our way, black rich soil, my grandad used to grow wheat and run sheep. he made a good life out of it, different times when you could make a quid.

same happened to my grandmother @TAB Germany after WWII everyone lost so much, i had family in the SS and Wehrmacht and even a great aunt who committed suicide after Hitler died because she thought the world would end. so much damage.

Re: Tabaluga's

my father was in Hitler Jugend , was local leader . @Jacques  then he applied for SS and says he was too short , sounds odd depending on the year, but yeah. went into Heer ok Army in 3rd  Panzer Division as officer cadet/tank gunner. He had nightmares and PTSD

he did catch up with friends from after the war  like 20 years ago tho.
