Hey @TAB yeah checked it out at Bunnings earlier today when I was online. Yes it would work out cheaper per volume for larger tank but for some reason SA metropolitan fire authority said 1kg for average house for domestic use. I've looked at all the fire extinguishers at Bunnings this morning and they went right up to 9kg. I thought going bigger would be a better idea, but no. I have OnePass which is free delivery at Bunnings.
My friend said his tank was quite heavy but he did not know how many kg it was. He lives in a small unit. Have you thought of getting one? It was on my to-do preparedness list. Ambos take forever to get to peoples homes and I think it would apply to Fireys too these days considering the summers we've had. Anyway 1kg is affordable and it may have been that one that came with a complimentary fire blanket on the Bunnings website. Anyway the link below tells you how to keep it maintained to check to see its in good working order every 6 months. It tells you everything you need to know.
Have a look at this: https://www.mfs.sa.gov.au/community/safety-and-education/fact-sheets-and-brochures/fact-sheet-pages/...

@TAB The site tells you what to look for to see if the tank is still usable. It has instructions on how to check the pressure gauge etc. Your car tank extinguisher may still be ok. It makes sense to have extinguishers - can't possibly rely on emergency services in this country anymore. Everything is going down the tube. Wound up in a medical pop up clinic Friday night as they are trying to prevent people from going to ED. The gov't has set up these pop-up clinics to take pressure off the hospitals all over the country. It was ok by me as I only had a minor wound but people are waiting days in ED depts and Ambos ramped up outside as there are no seats in ED's

Its always nice to have ambient cafe music in the background @tonys. Yes hospital food isn't the best. The hospitals run on profit models so everything is done so cheaply. I heard an interview by a man who co-wrote a book called "Hospitals and Health", its a book written for USA audiences mainly but I learned a lot from it and it educated me on how they operate hospitals. The other co-author ran a psychiatric hospital so it caught my interest when I saw it on Dr. Mercolas website. Here they have cut out a lot of allied services in psych wards which used to add structure to peoples days so patients are just bored listless and hospitals aren't just what they used to be. They worked out pouring pills down peoples throats in cold clinical psych ward settings was cheaper than a more humane approach such as including other therapies. I will never forget the great staff at my first admission. Its all gone sour now. I hope you stay has been ok but I know what you mean and how you feel. When do you get discharged? Do they have any idea?

The private health insurance is quite steep. I checked when I got the Extras you recommended. Dont think I could afford it. The house insurance I have has gone up to $90/month @TAB As for going to pop-up clinic sliced my thumb on a food processor. The bleed would not stop. Had stitches several years back after injuring my foot so thought I'd get it checked if I needed stitches again. The pop-up clinic was fast. Would do it again if the situation arose. Open till 8pm-12am after hours most days.

Hey @tonys
Paris Cafe sounds a lot better than the shopping centre I just spent an hour or two in, unsuccessfully!
Somehow forgot how close we are to Christmas, everybody is shopping it seems!
I'll take it as a lesson learned and appreciate that I can (and normally do) shop during the week 🙂

@StuF yes saw Christmas decorations outside a cafe when I went out yesterday. I don't celebrate it really so it doesn't affect me. It keeps the bills down! lol I can understand it may be expected of people in some instances or even unavoidable with social pressures but I found myself in a space where I don't need to do it. I notice the neighbours put on a huge celebration each year only to wind up nerve wracked after offloading relatives and spending truckloads of money. I think Christmas brings up lots of emotion for people too. I'm just putting on a light favorite meal and some snacks my diabetes can tolerate lol. Well thats Christmas. Might stick a wreath on the door. I intend to have a hassle-free day as I've had other years 🙂

Yeah @SmilingGecko
We don't go overboard here. Really just an excuse to catch up with relatives (nowadays just sister and bro-in-law...used to involve a QLD trip for the extended family) and have a feed with a beverage or two
Mum usually does insist on a tree though! lol
