Re: Good Morning!

My greens are turning into potted jungles, @tonys. Success this time.

I'm just taking one step at a time, at the moment. I hope you're doing well.

Re: Good Morning!

Hey @Historylover I did come across the Kratky gardening method some years ago. You can grow things in a concrete jungle without soil.  Its a system that is easy to use and uses a water solution to dip root systems of plants into. The plant grows inside a netted cup. Unlike hydroponics its not expensive to start up and requires no pumps.  It's one of the best systems out there and its a total no brainer. So if you have no soil Kratky can work. I saw someone who was big on the preparedness circuit promote Kratky. He said out of all the gardening system this was the best, and no weeding! You just put it in your backyard and let it grow. Its a fascinating thing to research and its being done here in our country.  Anyway if you have been disappointed by not having a big enough garden because of concrete Kratky can change all that! Here is a video on it. It shows you what Kratky is. You can't buy the startup parts from the man in the video as its USA based but you can get everything you need locally but the this explains what its about nicely

Re: Good Morning!

..looks alright @SmilingGecko  what does dragonfruit taste like ?

Re: Good Morning!

Fascinating isn't it? I thought hydroponics was good with fish instilled in the system, but this is even more simple. Unfortunately, I don't have the means of constructing it, but it has inspired me to experiment a little. It's been heartening to have had success this time, and I've even had a few sweet pea plants sprout. What I would give to smell sweet peas in my garden.

Re: Good Morning!

Looks delicious, @SmilingGecko. Is there a fruit to compare flavour to? Some of those Asian type fruits are delicious. Did you grow it?

Re: Good Morning!

I don't grow dragonfruit but you can buy from the supermarket @Historylover. You can either get it as a fruit or frozen. I buy frozen. I learnt about it from a healer.  I don't know how to describe it - a cross maybe between a watermelon and a cherry but yes its delicious. I have seen it sold as a concentrated powder but it gets expensive.  <images>

Re: Good Morning!

Yes, I'm well familiar with it @SmilingGecko. I'll have to try my local Asian greengrocer. Lychees and the like are delicious too. Juicy and sweet. I'll have to try dragon fruit. I hear they are easy to grow.

Re: Good Morning!

Mmmm  Potted jungles.  Love the sound of that @Historylover .   Not that its much help here , but back on the farm we use either coco peat,  and expanded clay for some crops.  I don't feel like a farmer unless my roots are in the soil though,    Sterilizing soil,  which has to be done,  back home is a mission.    But most of my crops are still in the soil through the summer.

Diminishing resources and overpopulation I feel will push agriculture to the limits of science,  and then unfortunately, it ,  and all of us over the edge of it..         I see it  coming..

Australian use more chemicals n energy growing nice short lawns than domestic food.

If every lawn was a veggie patch and conifer a fruit tree,  what would that look like.

I for one,  would forgo my demand induced industry to see it..

And you know something.   Try as I might. . .  I still can't seem to grow a bloody starfruit @SmilingGecko .

Hello @TAB   @StuF   @deshift   @Blackbird11   @Meowmy   @Shaz51  @Glisten n everyone finding there way.

Summer n concrete,  Cruel..     I'll stay wed to the shadows                                                tonys..
